I also heard it encourages rats to make their way in an chew away at cables etc.
Rats AND mice, Austin! My funny story goes back five years here in UK, when wifey and I were regularly buying bulk sacks of peanuts from a local DIY store, in order to feed the birds and squirrels in our front and rear gardens.
In October 2012, my faithful little Corsa (kept in my detached brick-built garage) was taken to my local Vauxhall main dealer for it's annual service and MOT. I soon got a telephone call from them, saying they had discovered something rather interesting when changing the air filter. Could they email me with photos taken, and use these on their website? Yes, I said...

Here is the old air filter, with a suspicious looking hole in it. After that was removed, here is what they found in the plenum chamber below...

Unbelievable! A mouse was collecting peanuts from our back garden, then squeezing through the ½" gap under my up and over garage door. Then clambering up the front end of my Corsa, into the air intake tube, to arrive at the paper air filter. Where it then tunneled through, to create it's own 5* luxury winter nest, with endless supplies of food on hand.
How amazing is that, eh? Next day, I was out in the garage with my Bosch 24v hammer drill installing full width ½" thick wooden bump strips behind the bottom of the garage door closing edge. No more mouse invasions ever since, thank goodness!
Moral of my story? No matter whether you use a car cover or a car port, your vehicle is vulnerable to rodent attack when parked outside!
Cheers- AL
