After a sip of whisky and lighting a roll up, and thinking about it, I guess it's time for me to draw the curtains on "Paphos restaurant recommendations"

But I cannot exit without suggesting the "Adelaida" and "Viva Cyprus" restaurants, across the road from the Almyra Hotel. Adelaida in particular is interesting, as it's a fixed price three course meal that includes a free bottle of wine per couple. Friendly, great food and service and ambience!

Check these two out on tripadvisor reviews to see current reviews. But remember to back paddle here to PL, please! AL :)

Me too AL, but mine's a ready made ciggy.

The clue is in the title:- restaurant for a special meal!

IMHO "Adelaida" and "Viva Cyprus" are cheap & cheerful only.

PS

If you were in Paphos just now AL, where would you
go for a "special" meal.

There' are many ways to assess a restaurant, and everyone has a different take on what's important. Unfortunately, some reviews on Trip Advisor seem to put portion size and/or price above all other considerations!

In my opinion, the quality of food, and the level of service must come at the very top of the list, but when it comes to a 'special' place, I expect the extra mile to include decent table linen, cutlery and proper napkins. A good wine list and some level of knowledge of the wines offered is also a must.

The Lodge and Gabor's would both make my short list of places to consider.

However well intentioned past memories, some times current advice from someone currently living here may be more useful? I used to think that things in Paphos seldom changed. But over the last couple of years so much in/around Paphos has really changed. Mostly for the better!
Does anyone know when the new Markideon Theatre will be finished, or the Market? I keep hoping that one day soon the re done road which goes around the outside of the market will reopen? It doesn't only serve the actual market but is an important through (part of the old road was one way)road for people going to Chloraka //Emba/Tala / Trimithousa areas. Also when it reopens it will help to relieve the present traffic congestion on Ag Pavlos Ave of traffic crawling up the hill towards the traffic lights near the old police station.

Al, with due respect Adelaida moved about 18 months ago! It's now much closer to the area where the Mosque and Agia Kyriaki church are situated.there is little car parking near there as there is a lot of construction going on.
We went there for a meal after playing mini golf about a year ago. Same menu as ever, but both the standards of food and service were terrible. We haven't been back. Viva Cyprus is still in the same place and is very good value for money, but it is not a restaurent for special occasions really!

I also like Gabor very much. Always had lovely meals there. Would definitely recommend.

I am interested in the replies as well.

I have a birthday and anniversary coming up soon so I too am looking for somewhere in the harbour area for a special meal.

Went to Theos a couple of years ago. First class food but a bit too touristy, shame really, it is a nice place to eat.

Will keep reading the replies.

Mind you, the Olive Tree's pork chops are rather special. I don't think they qualify on the close to the port front though.

Hang on a mo. Sue (the OP) lives in Tala, so is presumably willing to grab a taxi to take her and her friend the 7 mile journey to Paphos harbour (then back afterwards).

Tweedies Restaurant in Kissonerga, by contrast, is only a 3 mile trip from Tala !!! To me, that makes it a no-brainer, especially given all the personal recommendations in this thread... Looking at their website http://tweedies.com/ it seems they open at 6pm for dinner Thursday to Monday (hence closed on Tuesday and Wednesday). Booking essential !!!

I think it's fair to say that no matter where you choose to eat around the harbour or along the Poseidonos strip, it's bound to feel 'touristy'. A real annoyance is waiters lurking outside each eatery trying to drag you in off the pavement as you walk past!

Cheers- AL :)

Both myself and my friend celebrating birthdays at end of the month, so a special meal is in order!
Can anyone recommend a restaurant who does quality over quantity and more of a "fine dining" expierence in the harbour/Kato Paphos area, cost isn't an issue as long as its justified!
Thanks in advance
Sue
Now, ALL that needs to happen, is for people who can recommend a quality restaurant in the harbour/Kato Paphos area, to post a recommendation, if they so choose.

I know that my friends always having Sushi at the O'Shin Restaurant, Elysium Hotel, when they come to Cyprus as it is something which they cannot get better in Berlin. Alone the wine list shows what to expect concerning prices, but for a special night :?: Why not.
They never complained about the quality or the prices...

Last week we went to the Japanese restaurant in the Almyra hotel. Beautiful setting and gorgeous food. Not cheap though!

Okay, sticking to the harbour (and adjacent in Kato Paphos), what's the general concensus of opinion? Is it Theo Fish Taverna on the harbour? Or (now that 5* star hotels are included in the choices list) the Annabelle hotel?

AL :?

I certainly wouldn't go to Theo's for a special meal......sometimes it's good other times ok just like Rula sometimes she's very chatty other times not !!
Ristorante Bacco in the Elysuim is a lovely setting the last time I ate there was a couple of years ago, it was good, but it's not cheap.

Ok not actually on the harbour but Grazie has always been excellent for us, had some very interesting dishes from there a little different from the norm. I really enjoyed the duck in a wild berry sauce and also on another visit the duck in a bitter chocolate sauce (can you tell I like duck).
They also have excellent seafood and a very extensive wine list.
Enjoy wherever you end up.

Going back to the original question " A special meal " I have been to all of the restaurants mentioned and looking at the menus and service , I my opinion it would be a choice of Gabor or Grazie.
