The fully electric cars, not hybrids as the i8, apparently play recorded combustion engine sound to make the driving experience complete - a bit ironic I always thought :P
Security reasons. :!: ....https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electric_ ... ing_sounds

They should give them all chimes like ice cream vans. Much more fun.

Seriously though, I hadn't even thought about the noise issue. When I cycled in London I relied on noise to judge distances of cars behind me. Without that I wouldn't have felt at all safe, which is why I am always appalled when I see a cyclist wearing headphones.

Back to the subject - news from today:

Wouldn't it be nice to see the concept all-electric E Type Jaguar put into production?

Still see many E Types at Calais Ferry Port waiting to board, where they have just been to a rally in Europe. Iconic cars. Parked in a car park, they still look like they are doing 60mph...

Sadly, I never owned one, although it was always my dream to do so. But in 1968, I did manage to become the proud owner of a 1960 Jaguar XK150 FHC Auto, which I restored with TLC and sold on to a buyer in USA. It made a beautiful sound, with a 3.8 litre straight six DOHC engine and it's twin Burgess stainless steel exhausts...

Happy days- AL :D
Gone but not forgotten...
