Marathounta Wilderness

Post by Dominic »

There's an area near Paphos that is surprisingly remote. I had been meaning to explore it for some time. And now, as they will be starting work on the nearby motorway soon, I thought it was the ideal time to visit. You may never get to Mars, but if you want a feel for what it might be like, you could do worse than take a walk through the countryside near Marathounta.

Thanks Dominic showing us these images before they start to built the motorway right there. There is nothing to criticize of the film you made, just WOW !!! I am very jealous that I am not as fit as I was some years ago when I climbed like a mountain goat in areas like this and more extreme (Dolomites) however in less hot temperatures.

Great photography, but what an inhospitable area! No wonder you found concrete blocks across some tracks you tried initially... Not somewhere I would rush to explore...
I wonder what geological events have occurred there to create those unusual ravines.

Yes, this is exactly the area where the new motorway will be built. A place where in the past a lot of wrong accusations about destroying protected areas came up like the Natura protected Ezousa river valley which is nowhere near it, etc etc....
