Re: Little Man Does Malta - photo update (Lofos-Jan / Jeanne)
Some photos from Sliema and Valletta areas for Jeanne (Lofos-Jan)
Sliema Bay

Ferry from Sliema towards Valletta - following the P22 boat:

Valletta Skyscape from the ferry

Valletta Harbours from Upper Barrakka Gardens (above the Saluting Battery)

Nice spot for lunch - with some Italian music thrown in at this piazza:

Photos around St. Paul's Bay area
Views from the top of a very large set of steps (you can walk around the road though):

These are the steps!

Rock Cut (possible) Roman Baths - several opinions on what these are or who created them:

St Paul's Bay and Xemxija Bay - taken across the bay at Bugibba:

I have to say though, my favourite place is Marsaxxlokk and next time - me and hubby are going to stay at these apartments:
Quayside Apartments, Marsaxxlokk

Marsaxxlokk Bay

Hope you ladies both enjoy your stay in Malta and get the opportunity to do some exploring

Great stuff, Jeanne!
We always enjoyed our trips to Malta from Cyprus - mainly because it was only a flight of a little over 2hrs from Larnaca and we got to fly with Emirates too

Thanks for your good wishes Jules, I'm sure we will !
We fly from Manchester at stupid o'clock, but at least I won't be driving to the airport.

Re: Little Man Does Malta
Yes, I had to dig around to find some suitable flying times from Manchester too.... lots of flights leaving at around 07:00hrs was too much for us to be trying to get there at 05:00. For a flight at that time, we would have normally booked ourselves an airport hotel but this time we would have needed 2 rooms and Manchester airport hotels are more expensive than the one we're familiar with at Liverpool.
We ended up booking a package with Jet2Holidays as it worked out cheaper than DIY to put it all together and our flight was at 10:30am.
We took a taxi this time as it's years since we last took a car to the airport. We left our house at 07:00 for the 08:30 check-in.
Next time, we will choose our holiday destination by the flight times!

A couple of pics to show that Malta is not all built up (though admittedly that is hard to believe sometimes when you're driving around and stuck in traffic....)

Re: Little Man Does Malta
But sadly, no more photos of this..... although there is another "window" which I'm struggling to locate on a map:

Hard to believe how that could simply disappear overnight!

Re: Little Man Does Malta
Yes, I have plenty of photos of the window, in various types of weather.
We are quite devastated by the loss of our window. Have to admit my eyes were quite watery when I heard the news. Can't imagine what it will be like next time I go to Dwejra and it's not there.
From what I can gather it disappeared in a few minutes at 9.40 in the morning. I had presumed that we'd lose the arch, not that the whole thing would disappear beneath the waves.
I've seen the other window a few times, must have some photos somewhere. It was a well kept secret before, hope it doesn't get ruined now. It's not as high or dramatic at the other one, as it's more tucked into the cliffs.
Here it is, on google earth

Re: Little Man Does Malta
Thanks Ams....
The map helps a great deal for a visit on another trip to Malta.
Like you, we anticipated the top of the arch would eventually break and disappear but for the whole lot to go is a very big loss.
The window and Xlendi bay were always the highlights of our Gozo visits. Now Malta is going to have to to to rewrite its tourist attractions for the future....
If you have some photos of the other window I would like to see some. I've seen a couple of videos in bad weather but its difficult to see it as an actual window because it was filmed from above it.

Re: Little Man Does Malta
I'm not sure where my photos are, they'd be print photos, not digital, it's been that long since I've been there. Google wied il mielah and you'll see plenty of pics.
I should aim for a Gozo trip next spring - Gozo is beautiful in the spring. I agree Xlendi is lovely, pity about all the flats, but lovely to sit there and watch the sun go down. We also once hired a kayak to go along the cliffs there, which was great.

Re: Little Man Does Malta
Thanks again Ams
We've visited Gozo mostly towards the end of February and once in October. I think we could manage a few days there but probably not much longer than that. We love the traditional houses in Malta so would have to stay in one eventually and that may very well be in Valletta - so possibly a twin centre vacation for the future....
