Fabrica Hill Aerial walkway
Drove past today & there's workmen busy doing something to the walkway; either repainting to complete, or starting it's removal.

Re: Fabrica Hill Aerial walkway
They are completing it.
Frankly, I don't see the point of it. I don't think it is practical, or decorative.

Re: Fabrica Hill Aerial walkway
When I passed 2 weeks ago they were welding additional bits to it so they are continuing it.

I hope you are right HIC. At the moment it's just an eyesore.
In fact I don't even really understand the point of it.

There isn’t much need for it, unless people want to try an aerial walk from the area near the mosque, around much of Fabrica Hill , with its archaeological features.then crossing over Agios Pavlos Ave and ending up on the big Roman archaeological site at the opposite end to the Paphos Castle and the harbour.

I feel that once completed this will be yet another major tourist (and local) attraction.
Paphos is yet again setting its stall as an innovative and creative blend of ancient and modern.
I for one can't wait for it to open. (The exercise will do me good)

Yes it’s an eyesore at the moment, but most things are during construction. If it’s finished to the same design as the original proposal, I think it will look good.

If I was a tourist coming out to Paphos for the first time . . . . . . I would be jumping at the chance to do this walk. In fact, having lived there for several years I would definitely want to do this walk. Why wouldn't you???
Seriously, do not understand negative thoughts on this one

When you can already walk this on land?
Maybe take longer but there is no blot on the landscape.

Re: Fabrica Hill Aerial walkway
All will become clear I'm sure, when the whole revamp of the site is complete.

Some people do like to moan.
I replaced your library image with a non copyright one from our own archives, by the way.

If you look at the two blogs we did on Fabrica Hill you can see the route.

Re: Fabrica Hill Aerial walkway
We are hoping that once the walkway has been opened we will be able to see, relatively close up, what appear to be ongoing excavations of the Fabrica Hill site.
Re: Fabrica Hill Aerial walkway
The plan that I saw belonged to a construction supervisor and it was before construction actually started. At that stage they were mapping out the actual route that the construction of the walkway would take. The plan was pretty accurate as it turns out. The walkway doesn’t actually touch the sides of the hill, at least on the part from the Mosque which follows the outline of the hill as far as the point which is nearest the Mall. It is also quite elevated. It doesn’t look easy to get off the walkway anywhere. I think that the idea is that walkers will probably get a distant view of the various excavations that exist on this hill. It would be difficult for most people to identify what was found there. The various sites cover quicte a long time span, from the early period before the Romans came. The covered pebble mosaic is probably from the Hellenistic period (pre Roman). the Period of Roman rule for a period of 4 centuries, ending about the 4th Century, though some of the people in the later years came from other countries and stayed on after the Romans had left. There are further excavation sites dated to the Medieval period too.
It would be a reasonable walk, but you would have to choose your weather as in the summer there is no shade there, it is also exposed to the elements, both wind and rain!
It will be a case of wait and see how it is going to be finished off. I wonder who is paying for the additional work required?
