Re: EAC - Panels

Also EAC started to install so called smart meters to have a better control of their grid in order to avoid too high voltage and getting stable frequency. In response to a change in frequency, inverters are configured to change their power output to restore the standard frequency. Does this mean th...

Using solar energy during periods of curtailment

A question for the experts: Even during a period of curtailment (when the EAC shuts down your solar harvesting for net metering), are you still able to use the energy your panels are producing during that time? In other words, is this a good time to use appliances, cook, iron, etc, because you can s...

Re: Hard to find at Paphos supermarkets....

I like cooking and sometimes to get it perfect some ingredients are missing. So I tried to prepare German type Sauerkraut (cabbage) as I got glasses with raw German Sauerkraut from a friend, but very important spices/herbs: Juniper berries and caraway I could not find anywhere in Paphos supermarket...

Re: Altitude sickness tablets for overseas travel

I have learned the following: Acetazolamide is the medication sold in Cyprus for altitude sickness. (Branded Diamox in some countries.) I will be travelling to Peru, moving to a high altitude by plane, with no chance to slowly acclimatise. I have decided to take acetazolamide as a preventative measu...

Re: Altitude sickness tablets for overseas travel

Apparently there is no way to know if you will be affected by altitude sickness, i.e. they cannot test you. But if you are affected, it can be severe and ruin your holiday. Will report back for the thread when I know more.

Re: Guiding emergency vehicles to the house.

While walking in the Pomos area a few months ago, one of our group twisted her ankle. Two of us had to walk several km to our car and guide the ambulance back to our friend because they couldn’t follow a Google Maps PIN. They were driving a 4WD so that wasn’t the problem. The track was wide and easi...

Kim is excellent. I found her on this forum. We have a Chow Chow and take him to Kim every 2 months, brushing him ourselves in between visits. And yes, you must book ahead with Kim.

Thank you. Will try BOC. I am not going to the US but to South American countries where tips are given in USD. If BOC cannot help, I will have to wait till I arrive in S America.

US dollars - small denomination notes

Does anyone know a forex bureau in Paphos that will change euros to dollars and give me some notes in small denominations, such as $1, $5 and $10 notes. I need this for travel, and Hellenic does not have small-denomination notes, even if you order them months in advance. Thanks.

Re: Tax return E 19500

If you are an S1 holder you are exempt from paying tax on GESY contributions. In 2019 I was advised to contact Tsoula Michael at the MOH with my name and id number stating I was an S1 holder and received back an official document stating I was not eligible for contributions indefinitely. Not sure i...

Is it okay to use soapy water on plants? Not sure.

Our water is so hard we had to install a softener. Softened water should not used in garden.

Re: Water butt

Water butts are sensible and best if part of pre-construction planning as part of your overall rainwater and A/C and heat pump drainage systems. You need big (ideally concealed) tanks in the right places plus a system to pump out the water into your irrigation system. Not difficult to plan but can b...
