Re: Place your bets...

So, what do we make of the "meaningful vote" referred to by Rees-Mogg after almost all of the conservative side left the chamber this afternoon? No idea what you are talking about I'm afraid. Les put a link up as nobody had got hold of any text about it yesterday except for the odd quote on Twitter...

Led by Donkeys. Is it true?

Quite a powerful video - even if you don't agree.

Refugee Reception Centre on the cards in 2020 for Paphos?

The Interior Ministry is meanwhile setting in motion procedures to set up and operate a second centre within 2020, probably in Paphos. Construction will be paid for with EU funds and it will be run with the purchase of services from the private sector so as to be more flexible and be able to deal wi...

Re: Cycle Lanes in Limassol

I shared it on my fb page this morning.
One of my colleagues who works in the IT dept at my old office in Limassol commented she and her husband live very close to this area and they saw it happening. They couldn't believe what they were watching was really taking place.
You couldn't make it up!

Re: Parliament guarantees rights of UK nationals for GMI and employee rights

I understand it to mean there will have to be a proof of a guaranteed minimum income which is either your UK Government old age pension, personal employment / salaried position in Cyprus or private pension income. Basically, I assume there's an amount which is required to be met to provide adequate ...

Re: Cypriot organisations join forces to demand British woman in Napa rape case is freed

There's no jury system in Cyprus You're exactly right! But sadly, the "jury" is all over social media and particularly a rather large amount of males with Cypriot and Israeli names who appear to think she "asked for it" and knew exactly what she was doing. I think this is going to be a very difficu...

Re: Cypriot organisations join forces to demand British woman in Napa rape case is freed

I don't think the prosecution case should be suspended at all - the main thing is she is now no longer being held in custody, which in view of other information coming to light the other week, is the best that could have happened. But suspending the case completely means there will be no outcome at ...

Re: Is there anywhere like Latchi on the Eastern side?

Not sure how much they charge for the insurance nowadays to take a vehicle through to the north.... we did it every time when we used to go to Kyrenia from Limassol so went through the crossing by the racecourse in Nicosia but when the prices started to creep up, we stopped and used to go through on...

Re: Is there anywhere like Latchi on the Eastern side?

Thanks all, yes I noticed Potamos but it's quite small. Maybe I'll investigate Kyrenia for another time if I can get my head around the transfer issues from Larnaca. How does Kyrenia compare to Latchi? We went and stayed overnight at the British Hotel and had 2 of the rooms with balconies which loo...

Re: Is there anywhere like Latchi on the Eastern side?

The closest place similar to Latchi on the East coast would most likely be Pernera - it's still fairly small and hasn't expanded like some of the other tourist resorts around Ayia Napa. I would have originally said Paralimni but it's really grown since I first spent time there in the late 1980s. Goo...

Re: Airlines, how can they fall for this?

It happens a lot on UK flights too. Seen it at Manchester where they're in a wheelchair getting all the assistance possible then scarper at the resort end. We had one in our hotel in Benidorm last year who was fine when we saw her in the hotel and wandering around the café bars nearby but was in a w...

Re: Looking for a 2 night break at Christmas

We stayed in Kakopetria several years ago with some other friends of ours and really enjoyed it. It's a big enough village to have plenty of places to eat and drink but still small enough to explore on foot. We stayed at the Linos Inn - I think we booked it through one of the Cyprus Daily Deals vouc...
