That's unbelievable, do they not have a duty of care in Cypriot hospitals ? Surely the least they could have done was to publicise the fact that they were closing.

The ex-President only died on Saturday and the Government immediately announced 4 days of mourning with the Funeral day, today, being. bank holiday. Have you ever been treated in a UK Doctors / Hospital on a bank holiday other than A&E?

Today was not a bank holiday , I went in my bank ...business as usual .

The holiday today was just for government employees , I think .

You are correct it was not a Bank Holiday.. But the fact that the General hospital was not open for previously booked appointment is scandalous.. Some people will have needed to get scans or Xrays to see their doctor in the next day or so.. People will have needed blood tests prior to seeing their doctor..
How do people who were booked in to see a consultant go on for a prescription for their tablets..
Crazy just crazy.. :-(

How is it crazy Trev? Would they be open in other countries ? Of course not.

I don’t understand why some many people get up in arms when this sort of thing happens. If you don’t like Cyprus and the way it is then why not move back to the utopian U.K. ?

The only other country I have experience of is the UK... I am pretty sure that if someone like the president was to die then the hospital outpatient departments would not close completely..

I think it’s rude and disrespectful when all Expats do is complain about their adopted Country.

If all the Cypriots returned to Cyprus from the UK then there would not be room enough here for us all here, I agree it is very rude to disrespect the locals but the same goes for disrespecting us expats. All most of us ask is some understanding of this new medical system as at the moment is in somewhat of a turmoil, no doubt it all will become normal for everyone to use.

Also in agreement about the main General hospital closing during holidays, no way should this happen ever!!!.

Notwithstanding previous comments there was one occasion when my wife was scheduled to have an ultra-sound and because the machine broke down the hospital rang us up a couple of days beforehand, explained the situation and re-booked for another date. So sometimes they can do the right thing.

This has nothing to do with who lives where and what if we all returned to the country of our birth, this about a day of mourning for government employees due to the death of their Ex-President.

Who is disrespecting ex-pats? I am one, and whilst Cyprus May not be perfect in any way, it’s the place I chose to live and also to do so by the rules. It’s also far better than the country of my birth, England, which has been ruined by so many immigrants demanding law changes to suit their needs and the government caving into them. This is also probably the main reason so many others left the U.K. to live here?!

As the old unionist you claim to be I am surprised you demanding that others should work on such a day.....or is this just more of your doubles standards? You know, like the thread that you complained about the police not doing enough against law breakers and in the trailing thread you said you would continue to break the law and walk on dogs on prohibited beaches ;)

I don't think it's a case of Ex-Pats disrespecting their adopted country. Many of the patients are Cypriot and you can bet they are just as disappointed. Some people will have waited months to get their appointments. A phone call to reschedule would have been appreciated.

I imagine a lot of people will be back there today trying to make fresh appointments... And I also think there will be disappointing people and a lot of harsh words said.. Fortunately my appointment this week is on Friday..

Actually today was relatively quiet at the General. No huge queues anywhere. No people getting worked up or shouting. Just a few Brits moaning, as usual.

We went yesterday late morning and the place was heaving. It was difficult to find a space in the rear car park and people were parking in non-parking places. Luckily we were visiting someone and didn't have to join the queues of people trying to make appointments.
