Asprokemas reservoir

Post by Mark »

Over 1.6 million cubic metres inflow in the last 24 hours,

More than I remember in 15 years in Cyprus, augers well for no shortages of water this year.
Whilst the reservoir is only 24 % full, I hope that this is a sign that we may see an overflow with another 30 days like the last 24 hours.

Thanks Trev

Only circa 5 mcm this year inflow, but the 1.6 mcm in the last 24 hours is hugely significant, let's hope for another few days rainfall like this.

The weather now is reminiscent of late 2013, early 2014 when the reservoirs island wide reached capacity.

I hope!!!!!

You mean 2011-2012. There was virtually no rain 2013-2014.

Wrong Dominic, 2013, 2014 resulted in overflows.

That forecast would appear to be wrong. Bucketing down at the moment.

And here on TOTK Road! According to Weather Underground we're due plenty of rain over the next 4/5 days :)

As long we have no power cut everything is fine, but in case we have one for a longer period, it would be catastrophic...
At least last nights were relatively warm with > 12c

Maybe I worded it wrongly.... I was meant to be saying that the forecast only showed two, three hour slots, when it would not be raining..
So the forecast, like yourself, is correct that it is bucketing down :-) :-)

Another great rain radar site (German), one can start "interactiv" after clicking on the time window on the left of the page and is also looking 1-2 hours ahead..

So, in the rare event of a reservoir overflowing, the discharge is wasted in all occasions?

The last 48 hours now totals inflow of just over 2.5 MCM (million cubic metres)

That equates to nearly 5 % of the capacity of the Asprokemas, ..........keep it coming.

On another vein, tourists on the harbour still in shorts, a hardy bunch!

Quite but by comparison it's glorious here! I can still remember being one of those "Winter tourists" looking at the locals dressed up in their thermals and thinking :o

But now I'm no longer in the hardy bunch! ;)
