Smart cards will replace conventional bus tickets by January 7.According to All Cypriot bus operators will participate in the "Motion Bus Card" scheme, which was funded by 85% (10 million euro) by E.U. funds.There will be three different SmartCards:...

First time I've heard of a passport being required to buy a bus ticket !!!

At least you don't have to present your passport for the paper ticket …………… yet! :)
