I understand that military service is mandatory for all male citizens of the Republic of Cyprus. It's also mandatory for any male non-citizens born of a parent of Greek Cypriot descent. Relevant ages seem to be 18 to 50. To exit the country these people seem to need an Exit Visa.
As a 46 year old (so in the age range) but who has no Cypriot descent, either myself or my parents, who will get his MEU1 in early Feb 19, who is therefore exempt (as a non-Cypriot and parents non-Cypriot) a couple of questions:
- do I need to source an Exit Visa or do I just leave Cyprus when I want on my UK passport?
- do I need to do anything to prove I'm exempt or do I just ignore it all?
