Returning to UK/Car Insurance

Post by darrow »

I have heard that, a) upon returning to UK people have not had their no claims bonus recognised. This seems peculiar, since they are, at the moment anyway, both EU licences.
b) In some cases, being of a certain age, being refused insurance.
I know we have a few people on this forum who have returned. Can you give us your first hand experience of how you dealt with it, rather than listening to gossip. It will be interesting to see what is the truth regarding this! :?:

My no claims from Atlantic was accepted by my insurer in the UK. That said I shopped around, as some companies wouldn't, but that was a few years ago.

We returned to UK just over two and a half years ago after spending 12 years living in Cyprus. We changed motor insurance companies 3 times and luckily had 7yrs with GanDirect before leaving.
We had to shop around but our 7yrs Cyprus no claims discount was accepted in UK by Aviva upon receipt of an emailed confirmation directly from GanDirect.
I contacted our Cyprus insurers before we left but they said they would provide it upon request from the UK insurers.

Darrow I hope you're not moving back I would miss our over the wall chats, :geek:

I can say I'm definitely not moving back to the UK for us we are going to see it through and happy to do so, many of us are not in the best of health but the thought of another UK winter just is too much to even think about.

Your no claims bonus should be honored as long as you take back the proof of your insurance no claim discount as others here have said.

Ha! Ha! Jim! I thought you might say that! No, no plans to go back, but, never say never, and I was just collecting information, since, if I did go back, I might be tempted to give up driving altogether. Have a good Christmas if I don't see you over the wall before then!
