Rikkos beach
According to Pafos Press Rikkos beach is being demolished now.
-
In the demolition of the premises of "Rikkos Beach" in the coastal area of Geroskipou, they are trying to advance at this time crews of the Municipality of Geroskipou.
As you can see from the photos taken by PafosPress.com on the scene there is a strong police force after tension has been created with the family managing the premises for 45 years talking about arbitrary energy.
On the part of the Municipality there is a claim that there is a court decree for this action.
Here are the Mayor of Geroskipou, Michalis Pavlidis and the Municipal Secretary Costas Anastasiades who try to explain the decision and calm the spirits.

Re: Rikkos beach
more on this...………………..
RIKKOS BEACH: "I have been here since 1975- I have a building permit from the Municipality of Geroskipou but ...

The historical kiosk of Rikkos, which hosts thousands of bathers every year, and also a "hangout" of local and foreign, was demolished today by D. Geroskipou, on the municipal beach of Geroskipou.
In the same area, one of the new stands built by the Municipality of Geroskipou has been erected.
The Mayor of Geroskipou said that the Municipality of Geroskipou, within the framework of the legality situation on the coastal front of Geroskipou, proceeded to the demolition of loose materials that existed in the area so that the tenant entered the new kiosk built by the Municipality of Geroskipou in the area.
The goal of the local authority has been, it is like the bathers in the area to have the infrastructure they need ie lavatories, changing rooms, shower and other services to use.
We believe he said, "that in the next few days visitors will be able to use these places we have done with the new infrastructure in the area."
Mr. Pavlidis said that the owner of the historic kiosk of Rikkos, Andreas Christodoulou, had no license until 2018. With this, the local authority has signed a contract to use the new gazebo. He also explained that another is the repayment of the debts and the other licenses for the operation of the premises.
The owner of the historic kiosk of Rikkos Andreas Christodoulou said he was cooperating with the local authorities, but he regretted why he has memories of life in this kiosk, as he explained.
In his demolition statements he said "I have been in the region since 1975 and I serve the world. He insists that the Municipality of Geroskipou demolish it. I own a building permit from the Municipality of Geroskipou until the end of 2018 ".

Agreed about the health hazard comment. I understand that Andreas has been offered the lease on the new building but, of course, that would mean he would have to pay utilities, rent, taxes, etc. Something he has avoided the past 40 years, allegedly!!

I took some photos today as I went past on my daily walk. Rosemary went for a swim in the sea and was told about the police being there earlier. The new kiosk was being stocked as I walked past.
Re: Rikkos beach
He probably has avoided paying for 40 years because the local authorities have allowed him to.William Morris wrote: ↑Thu Nov 22, 2018 3:18 pmAgreed about the health hazard comment. Now he should just take it on the chin and carry on legally, or drive away to his multi million euro villa in his Bentley

Re: Rikkos beach
I was shocked which sh..hole it was when I was visiting that place for business reasons in 2011. He wanted a PV system but there was no way that EAC would agree as he had no any permits for his premises. How he managed all this years without health check, I don't know, but there were more places from refugees in the Latchi, Pomos and Kato Pyrgos area, running their business without any permits, water, electricity, but not that filthy...

I’m glad that the old kiosk has finally gone. It was the lack of hygiene there and the unspeakable toilets that put me off. I also hope that the little Oasis with the shady trees can somehow be allow to remain though. They make that area so shady and comfotable in the summer. It would be a shame if they are removed, the new kiosk that is looking clean and bright looks very austere with no natural shade there.

Re: Rikkos beach
So, I am not the only one who thought that it was a health hazard.
The new kiosk and toilets will greatly improve the area. I think that there are more facilities further along the beach as well.
