Forum Request

Post by merchant_banker »

Is is possible to alter the config of the software so that if someone quotes someone elses post, the name of the original poster is displayed in the quote?

I think this may be possible as I have seen it on other forums.

Thanks

If the responder hits the quote button in the top right of post they want to respond to it does it automatically like I've just done here.

If the responder cut and pastes the quote and just puts it in quotes using [ quote ] and [ /quote ] (ignoring spaces) then it doesn't.

Good call, I've always used the prosilver skin so guessing it must have been the default when I joined in March 2017.

For merchant_banker if you want to change the skin:
- click on the down arrow by your user name
- click User Control Panel
- click the tab that says Board Preferences
- under My Board Style click prosilver
- click submit

The down arrow by your username is only if you are on prosilver.

Subsilver 2 is a very old skin, which doesn't play nicely with the modern web, and mobile users etc.

I strongly recommend people use Pro Silver instead.
Just a test

To get the word Dominic in the box above, just edit your quote so that it says:

[ quote = Dominic ]

Oooft. Just gone prosilver. Think it's going to take me a while to get used to it but I'll give it a try??? 🤔 Moving with times and all that.

If you ever use a smart phone you will immediately see the benefit of Prosilver. :)

I do Dominic and I didn't. . . . . . . . So, I'm back to the old way now. I gave it a few days but Prosilver drove me nuts. 😣

OK - decided to give Prosilver a try.
So how do I choose to only get new Posts or Unread posts ? The option is no longer at the top of the page ??
thanks

Mee too!

I *think* Dominic did post some figures a while back about % users of the old style.

I would imagine that most are on the New Style. But is is good to have the choice of staying with what we like best, after trying the new one ..

Look in the Quick Links menu, directly above HOME.

There you will see:

Your posts
New Posts
Unread Posts
Unanswered Posts
Active Topics
Search

and a few others.

Personally I recommend Active Topics as the link to use. But everybody has their own preference.
