These two are wanted for thousands of scams - Do you recognize them? [photos]

Post by memory man »

The police are looking for two men to facilitate investigations on an alleged case of conspiracy to commit a felony and the theft of the EUR 8,404 money that was committed on 2 November 2018 in Paphos.

Men are described as 50-60 years of age, of 1.70-1.75m. about, sparse, one with white and the other with black hair.

According to the data under investigation, the two men entered a shop in Paphos and asked the landlord to convert the money to the 10,000 dollar in euros.

The suspects, after counting the $ 10,000 and put it in a file, gave it to the storekeeper who gave them the equivalent in euros. After the two men departed from the store, the owner opened the envelope, which was empty.

Anyone who knows anything that can help in their detection, please contact the FAE Paphos at 22606021-6049 or with the nearest Police Station or the Citizen's Contact Line at 1460

I wonder if they are wanted for thousands of scams or for scamming thousands of euros off this rather naive shopkeeper?

Begs the questions why would you want the money in an envelope and if you did why wouldn't you check it there and then?

The simple procedure is to count the money yourself and put the money in your till before handing over anything.

But ……………… if someone you didn't know asked you to exchange 10,000 dollars into euros then there is no hindsight only stupidity?

I well remember coming over on holiday, before I moved out here. Our late friend Paphos Al alerted me to a good kiosk which gave good rates, but also warned me to count the notes before I left the counter. This I did, and as I reached the end the lovely girl behind the counter slapped another Cy20 on the counter without a word being uttered by me. I did count them again and they were then right!

It always pays to check!!

Can't think I would ever hand over money in exchange without checking it first.

I would thought alarm bells would ring in your head why would you go into a shop to exchange money 💰 unless it was a scam or something else criminal!!

It is hardly heat of the moment.

Ive seen videos of these scammers ,and some as good as magicians, they both count the money etc, and at the last minute they distract the shop assistant and switch envelopes, giving him the fake one, many times they have other associates in the shop ,who also distract the shop assistant stopping him from checking the contents of the envelope, until the scammers are long gone.

That is not what is in the report.. It said it was an empty envelope..
If it had paper in it then it would be more understandable..

It’s all rather strange usually a teller would take the cash count it and keep the money their side, then give out the equivalent in the currency required,
The amount would make you suspicious in the first instance........how many carry that amount in cash, unless it’s from criminal activities or counterfeit notes........

The shop didn't have 10,000 dollars, it's what the fraudsters took into the shop to change into euros
I knew that

Some years ago I changed a large amount in a Paphos kiosk - about £5000 to buy a car.
The girl looked to be a little confused counting it out but we did the transaction and as I sat in the coffee shop next door I checked it again and there was €100 short. I went straight back in, where she checked it again, got the owner to check and they then gave me another €100 to make it right.

I am certain that it was an honest mistake and not an attempt to fleece me.
I was also very impressed at their response to it.
Boldly going......
