Rather amusing to us, and hopefully so many years have elapsed since the grandfather's death that this is no longer a painful subject for the family.

I am lucky, my Cypriot accountant friend is dealing with closing Dave's tax account. Social security was relatively easy, and even VAT finally accepted his death, although I had to complete an on-line nil VAT return for the whole quarter that covered the date of Dave's death, mot just to the actual date.

I remember a similar story about a credit card company chasing a deceased lady and insisting to her nephew she had to pay £66 arrears on her card. He explained she had passed on but they insisted. He finally gave the cemetary plot number etc and they then said "But that is a graveyard, dir" to which his reply was "Well, where do they bury people on your planet?" This is probably an urban myth, but it does go some way to explaining the level of idiocy that is beginning to pervade our world.

No need for this, when notified of a persons death, it only takes two minutes to alter the account to 'executors of'.
