Given what I just drove and walked through, if you didn't get lots of rain I will be very surprised. Tipped down in Paphos and Polemi.

I was at ISOP for the swimming gala, and towards the end a huge thunderstorm started. The drive back to Polemi was through a deluge.

Dominic

You keep all this thunder and lightning your way please - I join the dogs and cats who hide away from such weather - dont mind any rain but the other stuff has me pacing the floor. Was up at Kamares today where I had been playing bridge when the thunder started so was forced to join others with a bevy or two until it all ended :D :D :D Cheers - hiccup

Our rescue dog is the same, he whimpers and is desperate to run away, certainly before we hear thunder.
We have not found a remedy yet... He has been fraught for the last few hours, and we don't know how to help him.. Still it is better for him with us than being in the kennels..

Yep, I was at ISOP at 12.40, started heaving down as I left Tremithousa. Granddaughter was absolutely dripping when she got in the car just dashing from the sports hall to the new car park area!

Funny, I was near the post office at that time Smudger, and although it was raining and we had 2 very loud claps of thunder it was hardly heaving down. The rain drops were very big though! Shows what a difference just being a little further up the road can make!

Think I've posted this before but a few years ago I was coming up to the traffic lights in Tremithousa to go down the Polis road and couldn't understand the stream of water which was coming down the slope from the lights and just assumed that perhaps someone was (illegally I know) emptying a pool or summat. As I got to the lights and pulled out into the Polis road I realised it was bucketing down with rain! But dry as a board in Tremithousa!!

according to Cyprus-storms.net, there were 9 separate thunderstorms being tracked by about 9pm this evening, hell of show visible to the north of the island when driving back from dropping Mum at the airport around 8ish.

In our area Tremithousa yesterday afternoon we had very loud thunder and lightning, the pooch jumped high of her bed she is not normally bothered by loud noise, one thing I have never seen raindrops so big, hitting next doors tin roof we thought it was hail, no, just very large droplets of rain, much need too.

Tell that to our dog Devil

It certainly was lightning and very loud thunder almost instantaneous flash-bang, but this is Paphos, not your area, about 3pm yesterday. By the way, you could see lightning in the distance well into the night.

Okay, two flashes of lightning between 20 and 35 km away at 13:35 and 13:38 followed by three flashes between 13:50 and 14:00, between 35 and 50 km away. So that, at this time, there is no sign of thunderstorms in central Cyprus.

I dont mind where the thunder and lightning is at any given moment so long as it is not over here in Tala - rain if it wishes but please, please let the other stuff be with those who enjoy watching it. I feel for Trev's dog because I am the same shivering wreck whenever the lightning and thunder is about.

Devil read my post again, the storm was right overhead with lightning and thunder almost instantly, it lasted about 30 minutes and it was certainly not 30 clicks away, Paphos is here not in your area, so just maybe your statistics were wrong, for sure it was regarding Tremithousa and this is in the west NOT central Cy. :) .

Jim, I don't think you quite understand what I'm saying. My lightning detector counts the number of flashes over a given distance. Just because you had one storm in Tremithousa lasting 30 minutes doesn't mean that you suffered the only storm on the island. In the last three hours or so there were a total of 132 lightning strikes, all between 13:30 and 17:00, within a radius of mostly 20-35 km from here and a handful at 10-20 km. Obviously, the detector cannot count those in your place, which are beyond the detection range. What you experienced, with your storm, has not been recorded here and what we recorded is much closer to here. The last strike was 53 minutes ago.

PS for your info, we have had no rain at all here today!
