sticking door

Post by darrow »

Does anyone know how to adjust a typical cypriot internal door? It is not wood, ( the house is about 15 years old). It seems to have dropped. There is a gap at the top but the bottom is sticking. It lifts off the 3 hinges , which seem to be embedded in the frame. They are quite small and remind me of a pipe shape. The DIY store says they are screw in but I aam not sure, or how to adjust. I think this is a case of (hopefully) not a big job when you know how! Any advice appreciated and thanks!

Lift the door off the hinges and add a few washers at each hinge. This will lift the door by a few mm and should help.

As you have a gap at the top, I would just put one little washer (1-2 mm) where the hinges are...

Sorry, I think I have not explained it very well. The problem is at the side of the door where it meets the frame. When the door is "closed", there is a a gap where it meets the frame at the top, but the bottom fouls the frame and will not close.

OK if its the screw in hinges it sounds like the lower one has come out a bit, take the door of and try to screw it in a bit more

Rubber mallet against the opposite edge to where it does not meet and pry away from the edge that is closest.
