Is it possible to have a button to "View Recent Posts"?

You can find the option to View New Posts

if you click on the Quick Links at the very top left of the forum directly below the header image
"Have Camera, Will Travel"

Alternatively, you can change your theme under user preferences to prosilver2. That has written links as opposed to the quicklink menu.
