I thought it was already a Law.. We HAD to have our stray dog chipped and registered with the government vet.. And pay a licence fee to the local council

There are a lot of laws already on the statute book about animal welfare in Cyprus. The problem is that they are rarely enforced by the police.

It won't make one iota of difference to the people who allow their dogs to wander around, collerless, unchipped or thrown out. Or the people who don't get their dogs neutered or spayed. The resulting litters are disposed of in all sorts of unsavoury ways. Education and enforcement of the law is what we need.

If the Gov would enforce the law than thousands of dogs owned by farmers and so called "hunters" would disappear very quickly and less strays or dumped hunting dogs would be around the place...
