Has anybody used the Kato Pygros crossing to the North recently ?
If so, do you still have to telephone for the insurance man to come ?
Or is there now a more permanent arrangement in place ?

It is open all the year round and there ought to always be someone selling insurance. However, I cannot vouch for very late at night nor early hours of the morning.

Re: KATO PYGROS CROSSING
Recently used this crossing and got insurance from Andreas Karos actually in Kato Pyrgos village. Same price as elsewhere of €25 for a month. All you have to do then is show the certificate at the crossing.
His office is two doors away from "The Station" cafe on the left hand side in the centre of the village (and you can wait for the paperwork having a coffee in the cafe!) If his office is closed phone the number on the door as he is probably in his other office upstairs.
