Tougher penalties for traffic offences planned

Post by trevnhil »

It seems like there will be heavier fines and more points dished out if this proposal goes ahead.

Good news but it needs the police to catch the offenders in the first place & how likely is that🤔

To me it is not particularly the fines that need increasing, but the detection rate.
We all see speeding motorists, drivers on their mobile phones and motorcyclist with no helmets.
Why don't the police make a more concerted effort to catch them

Well, they are. But people moan about it when they do.

Having been caught twice, I would say fairly likely.

Both my stupid fault and shouldn't have happened, nevertheless I support the increase in penalties.

Although it is a number of years ago, I too have been caught speeding. I also support these new measures..

And when I click on Dominics link it comes to my post, so I suppose he must be criticizing my view. THE POINT I WAS TRYING TO MAKE was the police were in a place where the limit is ridiculously low, not on the old airport road where taxis and hire car delivery drivers regularly overtake at 100kph+. Plus, why is there never a speed trap on a Wednesday on this road, when the taxis are all speeding.

I have never had a speeding ticket and neither has my wife. I keep to the speed limit on the motorways and in urban areas.

I wasn't highlighting anybody specifically on that thread. Just that people were moaning about increased police action.

Ah, I was trying to post a link to the thread. Looks like I specified a post in it, or something.

This should be the entire thread:

viewtopic.php?f=3&t=5985

That would explain your confusion, John. I didn't mean to highlight your post, or Allesley's.

I think heavier penalties for not wearing safety belts.........2 fatalities last week a father of two and a 5 year old child
How many of us see toddlers sitting on laps, children standing in footwells etc
I’m afraid complacency appears to rule.............

Morning.

I'm afraid the problem of rough drivers is not just on the main roads, villages suffer too, you never see the police then, daily we see kids on mopeds doing wheelies and for sure no tax or insurance, if they hit you or any of your family then nothing would be done (see recent letter from a reader in the Paphos Post) This problem has been going on for years and seemingly all the local bobbies do is find easy targets on dual carriageways with no urban development, none of us are squeaky clean regarding motoring offenses, personally I use a hands free phone system that automatically directs to the sound system, it works well when occasionally I get a phone call while out and about, for sure moaning does not come into this but common sense by the local traffic police needs to, of course, this will never happen as it is far easier to stand behind a parked vehicle on a silly 50Kmh on such a fast road, get in the villages sort out the problems there.

Again this is my business and it will stay that way, how fast was your recent speeding fine for? just to say I was going fast enough for the rosser with his new toy. It is really a stupid speed limit on this road, and THIS is the point, I feel the local police should use their resources in a more productive way regarding the villages where many of us try to live, that road is just a very easy target as others have said. Oh well, I am moving on from this but a reminder to the Mr. Perfects on here this could very easily be you. Watch that right foot especially if your motor is fitted with a Supercharger

I haven't had a speeding fine. With regards to how fast you were going, it is very relevent to the point you are trying to make. If you were doing 52 in a 50 limit you could expect a lot of sympathy. If you were doing 82 then much less so.
