Upskirting
Upskirting
This was a bill proposed in parliament today to prevent people, predominantly if not totally men, taking photographs under the skirts of girls/women.
It was blocked by one MP, Christopher Chope, who apparently disagrees with private members bills.
He also blocked a bill whereby police dogs and horses would receive greater protection for the same reason.
What is the problem with this Neanderthal? If you are a constituent of this supposed MP, then please vote him out at the very next election. He is clearly voting within his own priorities. This is not his duty, his duty is to represent his constituents.
What the hell happened to democracy in UK politics??

Re: Upskirting
Saw this story earlier & thought what a prat! Apparently, there is a group of backbenchers who regularly do this, further details here : https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-44496427.

Re: Upskirting
The more things like this appear in the UK, the more I'm so glad I made the move to Cyprus.
I won't make a big speech about upskirting as much to say if anybody disagrees with the MPs who are trying make this unlawful should not be allowed to walk among us.

Re: Upskirting
"Upskirting" is also an issue in Cyprus - even at the parlament in Nicosia - I remember this story was all over the news in 2016:

(this article from the UAE of all places is all that I could find).

Re: Upskirting
Hudswell, I'm not sure I agree with you on the point of 'procedure' but nevertheless this obstructive MP has continued to make a name for himself whilst totally disregarding parliamentary procedure. Not acceptable in politics today
There are myriad procedures by which MPs can make their objections known, this buffoon chose yet again to attempt to make a name for himself by nefarious means which only hampered parliamentary democracy. Totally unacceptable from a representative of the people. He is just that, a representative of the people, not a maverick operating like the Lone Ranger.
This was an important bill, which needing hastening through parliament to stop the disgusting procedure of upskirting. Did this self opinionated twerp give a toss for that, or the many women who have been distressed by this horrible practice? Clealy not, so it now goes back into the system to bring it before Parliament again, and hopefully bypass Neanderthals like Chope.

Re: Upskirting
Why not use the laws that are in place already?
Conduct likely to cause a breach of the peace would fit 'upskirting' well.
Hudswell IMO is right, the proposed laws should be properly thought out and debated and worded correctly and not a knee jerk reaction.

Re: Upskirting
He didn't even know what upskirting was. He scuppered an important bill for his own agenda. What a pompous twit.

Re: Upskirting
Because the police chose not to.
From the press:

The voyeurism (offences) bill on upskirting – the taking of surreptitious, sexually intrusive images – was put forward by the Liberal Democrat MP Wera Hobhouse after a campaign by Gina Martin. Police have declined to prosecute a man Martin accused of taking underskirt pictures of her on his phone at a music festival in London last summer.
As a private member’s bill it would normally have little chance of becoming law. But early on Friday the justice minister Lucy Frazer said the government would back it.

Re: Upskirting
The next man caught doing it should expect the victim's knee to be strategically placed with force where necessary to prevent a repeat performance, might stop a few.
