A good friend has been incarcerated in the Evangeismos for a couple of days after being bitten by one of her cats. Please please never underestimate cat bites, they can be horrendously critical!!!

Cat bites can be so poisonous that they can seriously disable a person. Fortunately my friend was well aware of the possible effects of cat bites so she took herslf to the Evangelismos straight away and was kept in..

Please, never underestimate a cat bite or scratch, they can seriously disable you and result in massive problems.

Cats have the second most dirty mouths on the planet. Guess who's the first - us humans.

Never ignore a cat bite or scratch, they can be almost lethal..

No Lloyd, it needs much stronger injected anti bios, by mouth don't act fast enough. Can really be critical, so speed is of the essence. If you get a bite and it swells up or becomes inflamed, don't hesitate, get to the hospital straight away. I don't think enough people are aware of this danger.

I feed six cats, five of them are local feral cats, they hiss sometimes but if one bites me I will take it over the road, permanently, so far none have tried.

A vets biggest nightmare in being bitten by a cat as they have a nasty bacteria in their mouth .......they do not hesitate if bitten straight to the hospital for treatment

Update - Sue is still in the Evangelismos. The poison in the bite looked to be receding, but it's on the move again today. Not good. This is one heck of a bite and is dispensing it's poison, keep your fingers crossed for her, it can move around the body and cause horrendous problems. I'm praying it will start receding speedily and clear itself.

Never neglect a cat bite, Sue didn't, and look what is happening to her. It needs anti bios straight away, so don't hesitate folks, always get cat bites treated immediately!

Thanks Jimgym, were all praying for that. So viscious and can spread like wildfire. She has been in 3 days now and they still haven't got it under control. Never ever neglect a cat bite, they are lethal.

As far as I'm aware Aphrodite yes it does. Just be careful if you get a bite, get to the hospital and get antibiotics. Cats just have very dirty mouths so you cannot take risks. My friend has many cats and has had for many years, but even though she went straight to the hospital she is in a bad way and they are struggling to get the poison under control.

Don't take risks.

Wise words Flossie!

My friend has had a good nights sleep for the first time since she went in and is hopeful that they may let her out today. The doctor treating her is away in Austria but rang her last night to check on her and seemed pleased with progress, she had one less anti biotic on the drip so it's looking hopeful. As she is feeling better I guess that's a sign that they may have the poison under control at last thank goodness. But a timely warning to us all on cat bites!

Ah.. so the comment " She was bitten by one of her cats " could well have been one of 'her' stray cats that she feeds... I must admit that this thread has been enlightening as to how dangerous a cat bite can be. I am feeding a stray cat and looking after her health wise. I will try not not antagonise her..

One of our cat gives us "cat nips", supposed to be a sign that they love you......she probably does as we rescued her 8 years ago!

Mmmmmm,never had a cat,but if had one and it bit me and put me in hospital,i might get rid of it in case it did it again.If I had a wife or husband who put me in hospital again I would also be inclined to pert company
