Police sweep up 21 suspects within hours as part of organised crime crackdown

Post by memory man »

A total of 21 people were arrested, 18 in Larnaca and three in Limassol in a police sweep that went into the early hours of Wednesday, the force said.

More than 100 police officers took part in the large operation to fight organised crime.

Eighteen residents of Larnaca who are known to have been involved in serious crimes recently were arrested between 9.30pm and midnight.

According to police spokesman Andreas Angelides some face charges of involvement in criminal organisations and money laundering.

All are being questioned before it is decided which of them will have to appear in Larnaca court.

Meanwhile, police conducted coordinated searches in shops and homes in the Paphos region but no arrests were made.

In Limassol, three people were detained early on Wednesday after officers searched various premises. The suspects have previously been involved in burglaries.
