I have corrected the typo. I thought I best mention that to avoid confusion. :)

Do what the locals do and have a few sprigs of Basil spread on the table and hanging on your ears. Flies hate it and will buzz off elsewhere!

The tiny flies were a real problem a couple of years ago for weeks and weeks. We were sitting having coffee in Polis one day and the owner’s husband came out with a metal ashtray. It was quite full of ground Cyprus coffee beans, which he then proceeded to light. What a result... within seconds the flies were banished, and did not return until the ground coffee was extinguished. Apparently it is an old Cypriot trick and it does work. It gives off an acrid smoke and the flies leave town. We used this at home till the end of the month, when the flies disappeared for the season.

Put something under the metal container as it will mark the tabletop on which it stands.

We had coffee in the beach bar at the Polis camp site yesterday. The guy next to us couldnt eat his meal due to the number of flies, they virtually covered his meal.

A napkin soaked with fly spray and placed in a large glass at the table does also the job... ( also under the table where they get you always  )

El tel wrote: Tue May 22, 2018 3:51 pm I guess that taking a large can of fly spray into a restaurant would not go down well. I think my question has been answered there appears to be more flies around than normal. Thanks

Terry
I was not talking of an large can of fly spray to take into a restaurant, but instead a tiny pump spray of 90 ml, for example from Boots
http://www.boots.com/jungle-formula-pum ... l-10191817 which would fit in any handbag...

Hudswell wrote: Tue May 22, 2018 5:49 pm Sorry Max but that's not how it works....it's designed to go on your skin....and even with Jungle Formula, which is excellent by the way, if you miss a bit you will get bitten. The beasties may not go near the "soaked rag" but they will go for you....
Incidentally, I was feeling sorry that my dog was surrounded by flies today, even on her nose, so I sprayed some of this mosquito spray around her on the floor tiles. (not at the dog)
After a couple of minutes no flies anymore in her area. (but must say normal flies, not the nasty little ones, living in the sand near the beaches of Polis area until June, when they disappear...)
