Sheep slaughter.
Sheep slaughter.
A neighbour of Russian decent today killed and butchered a large sheep, is this allowed in a private dwelling?, or do we just shrug our shoulders, a very unpleasant sight, luckily he drove it trussed up still alive to the top of nearby fields and did the deed, I just saw it coming back in bits, in plastic bins..

Jim.
Re: Sheep slaughter.
Was the sheep killed humanely? I speak with zero legal knowledge but if you only actually saw the transport of bits of meat I don't think the police will be interested.
We used to work near a slaughter house in the UK. It was sad seeing the lorries full of livestock driving there and leaving empty. It ponged badly in summer too. It didn't stop me eating meat though.

The police may not be but I'm pretty sure the district vet on the Polis road, near Kyriakou Bookshop I think, will be. I'd be staggered if "humanely" didn't figure large in the regs, and the district vet is the person to ask the questions.

In Islamic law dhabīḥah (or zabiha, Arabic: ذَبِيْحَة dhabīḥah IPA: [ðæˈbiːħɐ], 'slaughter'(noun)) is the prescribed method of ritual slaughter of all lawful halal animals. This method of slaughtering lawful animals has several conditions to be fulfilled. The name of God or "In the name of God" (Bismillah) must be called by the butcher upon slaughter of each halal animal separately, and it should consist of a swift, deep incision with a very sharp knife on the throat, cutting the wind pipe, jugular veins and carotid arteries of both sides but leaving the spinal cord intact.[1]
The precise details of the slaughtering method arise from Islamic tradition educated by Muhammad, himself. It is used to comply with the conditions stated in the Quran:
Forbidden for you are carrion, and blood, and flesh of swine, and that which has been slaughtered while proclaiming the name of any other than God, and one killed by strangling, and one killed with blunt weapons, and one which died by falling, and that which was gored by the horns of some animal, and one eaten by a wild beast, except those whom you slaughter; and that which is slaughtered at the altar and that which is distributed by the throwing of arrows [for an omen]; this is an act of sin.
— al-Māʼidah 5:3
