Mind, heavy dust in the air again, nearly 300 mg/m3 PM 10 (update)

Post by cyprusmax47 »

All people should stay away from work outdoors again as the dust particles are very high in the Paphos district (4) with nearly 300 mg/m3 PM 10 at this moment.

Outdoor work, eh! I will bear that in mind.

Would that include turning the page of my book and lifting my tea to my mouth?

If you were outdoors, yes. :)

It really is bad out there at the moment.

Now, 9 pm, it is with 465 micro gr/m3, the highest of the day for PM 10 at Paphos (there is NO reading for PM 2,5 though)

I reckon that the dust levels are even higher today. Wasn’t too bad around Polemi where I and others in a walking group completed a 9-10km walk earlier today, though the hills were looking very misty/dusty by the time we fnished. Driving home afterwards, the dusty athmosphere was resembling a thick mist when I reached Tsada, turning right to go via Kili, I needed headlights as the mist was almost like a fog as it was thick and swirling around. Not good driving conditions given that the roads around Kili are often steep and narrow I can’t remember seeing the effecs of a dust storm as bad as this before here.
Perhaps its best to avoid the high ground today if you are driving...

I thought it was more like low cloud in Tsada etc.

Surprised you were out walking today. Can't be very good for your lungs.

Dominic,
The weather was sunny and reasonably clear when we started the walk, but the mist/dust seemed to get worse when we were about halfway! But i think that it wasn’t as bad in Polemi, the problems with low visability didn’t start until I reached Tsada. The mist seems thicker on the tops of the hills as well as the coastal side of the hills, take care if you have to drive back.

I remember the first time we experienced dust in Cyprus. It was a February half term and our daughter Rachel was around 12 years old. We thought it was fog and went for a walk down at Mandria Beach. The dust really irritated Rachel and she was actually physically sick. In fact, the dust was so bad there were no flights at the airport.
