Purchase of a new iPad?

Post by MacManiac »

My beloved iPad 2, which I bought in 2010, is showing signs of age (which I put down to the relatively small amount of RAM). Various apps will no longer work as they once did. A factory reset brought about a small improvement but I have to face the fact that it needs to be replaced.

It appears that outlets in Cyprus are charging a premium of €60 - €80 and so my reaction was to buy from the UK. Apple, in their wisdom, will not send an iPad to Cyprus, and neither will John Lewis (because it has a battery). Amazon does not sell them, although their resellers do. But many of the comments point out that they do not come with a UK plug, which I would want.

Can anyone suggest a reputable store in the UK which will post here? I would appreciate it.

Amazon De will send iPhones or any phone here to Cyprus, Amazon UK has a problem because of the batteries fitted, but the German Amazon seems to be unaffected by this, thinking of a new Samsung S9 as a pre-order from De...

It isn't that the stores won't post them. It is against the law. It is a daft law. It is ok for them to be on a plane that takes off and lands in the UK, but not if it goes further afield.

You have a couple of options if you want a company to ship it by sea. Both have a weekly service, though that refers to how frequently they run the service, not how long it takes. Allow a month door - door.

We have used both services, and had no problems with either. RSS are a bit more high tech, and their office is right next to a fish and chip shop, but both delivered our goods as promised.

Re the daft Law about them being on a plane... It is daft because once you have bought one you can take it with you to and from the UK..

Dominic, as you have used both shipping companies do you know if they have insurance. I know I can contact them I just thought you may know..

I am another victim of an ageing ipad2 . I bank with the Halifax and this weekend they have updated their app . The new app only works on iOS 10 which my iPad 2 will not run . Thankfully I can still get in on my web browser , so I will not be renewing my iPad just yet . ;)

So MM did you get a new iPad ?

I had an email from apple today , they are taking orders for a new model at a lower price than last years model .

They offer an on line trade in , mine worked out at £55 for my old iPad , but I don't think I will use this offer .

I think it might be time for me to renew . :?

Thanks for that information about the latest iPad. Through the good offices of a member of this forum, I was able to buy a 2017 iPad (literally only a couple of weeks old and I’m not sure it had even been used) for a terrific discount. I picked it up on Monday. As I would never use an Apple Pencil, this was ideal for me. The difference between my venerable iPad 2 and the latest model is nothing short of outstanding. So I hope you enjoy your proposed purchase as much as I am doing.

I sent Stephanis an email to ask if they would be getting the new model , the reply was perhaps not as it is an educational version ? Already on Amazon the price of the 2017 model is starting drop , but Cyprus shops still ask the high price

I must admit the Apple Pencil would not get used by me , and as a 90 quid extra .....no thanks .
