What I don't get about CM articles which cover villages, is what they miss out. Why don't they mention the Letymbou tavern? I noticed last year when they covered the Polemi tulip festival, they didn't mention the Olive Tree, but they did mention Kokkinos Tavern.
Is it lazy journalism, or is there another reason?

Re: Letymbou pushing its way on to the visitor map
I believe it is a combination of lazy journalism and personal interests, as Paphos is a small area and everyone has got a cousin..
I remember years back when CM came to my place in Polis area to produce a large article about my Solar PV/Wind system, unique at the time in Paphos district. Even the girl got all information she needed from me to write a proper article, she messed it up in a big way, mixing hot water production and electricity production in this full page photo reportage.... Nobody could understand what she was talking about.

Given that the Letymbou Tavern gets visitors from all over Paphos, and tourists as well, and is often packed out on a sunday, I don't think you can put your friend's failure entirely down to the jealousy of the locals.

But why would tourists and visitors from all over Paphos be jealous? That was my point. If your clientelle is not just the local population, and that is certainly the case for the Letymbou Tavern, then why would their jealousy matter?

Re: Letymbou pushing its way on to the visitor map
One can see that this article is again poor journalism. Not to mention, that Letymbou Village also having one of the oldest churches in Cyprus, the Church of Saints Kerykos and Ioulitta is out of believe. The church dates back to the 12th century and has outstanding architectural features. The many earthquakes in the Paphos region earlier have damaged some of the interior, but most of the original features have remained intact. A photo from this lovely church one can find in my last blog about crystals in that area .....I am often in Letymbou area in Summer and it is many times packed with visitors, specially the weekends...

The article did mention the Vineyard Tavern. My comment was referring to what they missed out.

Re: Letymbou pushing its way on to the visitor map
No one appears to have picked up on the tax issue , Cypriots pay less than Brits (or not at all ) in Letymbou .
Wasn't there a problem like this in Kouklia , the council kept putting up the council tax on the secret valley and Aphrodite hills estates , and the owners on both estates refused to pay anything . The council then backed down and there was no increase , not sure for how long . Also it was brought up that owners in the village paid less . Kouklia has done well out of the two estates bought themselves a nice sports stadium . Not sure if I have got the story correct , I am sure a resident will be along to correct me if I am wrong .

What's there to pick up on? There was an issue and the Mukhtar sorted it out.
Now with Kouklia, I believe it was a bit more complicated. However, I only heard second and third hand accounts. Yes there was a difference, but it was because of the increased cost of doing the bins etc at Secret Valley, compared to those in the centre of Kouklia. So the discrepancy was not between Cypriots and Immigrants, but people living in the centre of Kouklia and those living further away.
I don't know if that is true or not, but that is what I was led to believe. If there is a Cypriot living at Secret Valley getting charged the same as an immigrant, then that would appear to be the case. If the Cypriot is getting charged less, then it is a different issue altogether.
It would be nice if somebody with first hand knowledge could set the record straight, either way.

No need to apologise. Second and third hand accounts are rarely accurate.

Re: Letymbou pushing its way on to the visitor map
There's many village restaurants all over Cyprus that wouldn't survive with just the local population, many of which are elderly and dont go out to eat, many of these restaurants only survive by people going to them from larger surrounding Towns, and rely on weekend visitors to keep operating,...blaming jealousy for closing down any restaurant is a bit weak?
Re: Letymbou pushing its way on to the visitor map
Towns folk have been visiting village tavernas for donkeys years, no its not any different at all.
