Under a new Government scheme announced today, those who paid a registration fee for a Lasting Power of Attorney or Enduring Power of Attorney in that period can apply for a partial refund as they were charged more than was necessary.

In UK in 2007, there was a deadline to do Power of Attorney before October that year. Wifey and I both did this, along with new mirrored Wills.

After that deadline, apparently, Power of Attorney took on a whole new personna, with HMG and the so-called Court of Justice basically stealing everyone's assets for the simplest of claims...

Sadly lost my wife in July last year, so her PoA was never needed. But mine is still valid, in my wife's name to act for me, with the back up that if she predeceases me, then our daughter takes over (if I go doo lally). No fees refund due here, though, not from 2007...

@Lloyd: There MUST be the equivalent of a legal Power of Attorney document available to residents in Cyprus, via a lawyer, surely?

Thank you so much for posting this, OH and myself both did our LPA's in 2014 and 2016. I have now applied for partial refunds of fees for both.

Surely it wouldn't matter if it was valid in Cyprus, if you paid the fee, it seems you're entitled to a partial refund. Give it a go if you have one, nothing to loose.

Surely a Power of Attorney is just that! You are giving someone, under certain circumstances, to act on your behalf when you can't!

I have just signed one specifically for my lawyer to sign a property contract on my behalf if I'm not able to for whatever reason.

Okay, Lloyd. So Cyprus doesn't recognize UK LPAs. But surely they have their own legal instrument available for couples who are facing this future dilemma, to enact something similar?

Or does Cy Gov take over in the situation where one of you can no longer act for themself?
