Post by Paphos Life »

A large group of foreign students had to be rescued from the Avakas gorge in the Akamas on Saturday night after getting lost....

They surely could have used a bit of a better photograph than the one in the article - like this one from last December...

They were lucky to have a phone signal - it is a bit hit and miss in the Akamas - and certainly in the gorge...

Why would you have an "excursion" to the Gorge at 6.30pm ............ unless you had people in the party who were used to night time trekking? :?

I presumed they were further up the gorge, ie in the valley I have photographed before. I mean, how can you get lost in a narrow gorge, one that has water running in it, in one direcction?

We drove past the gorge today, and saw a big group of youngish people nearer Pano Arodes. I do hope that hadn't gone back for more.

Probably true yes, or maybe on the way down to the coast - there are different ways to go there which might be confusing if dark?
