Spice Girls reunion

Post by exodus »

According to the BBC the Spice Girls are reforming, BUT Victoria Becham will not be singing. Anyone know why not?

Happy in Cyprus wrote: Sun Feb 04, 2018 11:18 pm I agree with Hudswell. In their heyday the Spice Girls were almost as well known as the Beatles, all over the World. Their music and songs were probably no better, no worse, than any other pop group of the time. As Hudswell claims, they 'entertained' millions - especially young teens. Whether it be to our individual taste or not is irrelevant. Agree, best of luck to them.
They were never my cup of tea, but they were certainly good at what they did.

It is traditional though, for one generation to mock subsequent generations' choices in entertainment. I have great difficulty coming to terms with some of our daughter's viewing choices on youtube. A common refrain, I wisely keep to myself is "but you are just watching somebody else playing a game. Why don't you play the game yourself?"

But it's all about a shared experience, and, more importantly, one they control. Any kid with access to a computer can make a video and upload it. It is easy to become part of the event. Much easier and cheaper than learning a guitar or similar.

And even those hideously annoying lifestyle vloggers who go around blagging cut priced meals and accommodation are doing something that involved them getting up off their arses. The young generation is creating it's own form of multimedia entertainment, one in which traditional TV takes a backseat role. And though older generations may not like it or understand it, we should at least respect the fact that it exists, and acknowledge what they are accomplishing.

I may be biased, but modern bands that I have never heard of and never listened to cant hold a candle to the bands of my youth.

So called 'supergroups' haven't happened for some time.... Oasis, U2 etc. We have '1 Direction' - as a fabricated group, albeit talented and singers.

The Spice Girls were fabricated and the reality was, only a couple of them had close to a singing voice. They came on the scene at a time when computer backing could make anyone sound good. There's no way they could do a stage show with trickery - and many 'artists' would be the same.

That's not to say there argent some fantastic talent. Amy Winehouse, Adele - being just two London examples of incredible self-made talent.
