Today's Bike Ride
Went out today for my first longish ride on my new bike. Cycled from Anarita, along the back road to the Industrial Area where Peter Morton is, then down to Achelia. Then about 100 metres along the B6 and I turned left, just before the bridge, and followed the dry river bed, crossing it just before the coast. Then passed the Luna Park and down to the coast by the Paethon Beach Hotel. I rode along the whole of the coast path, as far as the shipwreck and Tomb of the Kings. I know you are not supposed to, but I was very careful and rode very slowly where there were pedestrians, having almost being knocked to the ground by a cyclist yesterday.
Crossing over the river
Building new breakwaters at the Airport end of Geroskipou Beach
A lovely coffee at the Kiosk by the Imperial Hotel.
More breakwaters being built on a notoriously dangerous stretch of coastline.

Looks a great ride John. How long did it take - with breaks etc?
I’ve sent you a pm.

Re: Today's Bike Ride
John and Jen, have not received your pm.
Yesterday I was out for around 5 hours. I took it quite slowly, especially the sections near the hotels and the harbour, where there were pedestrians about.
Today I cycled from Anarita down to Timi, then along the B6 for about 100 metres, to a turning on the left off the main road, opposite the first turn off for Timi.
I managed to retrace yesterdays route home. From the turnoff on the B6 , I followed the road, and then farm track down, almost to the army camp. I then turned right along another farm track, which ran parallel to the army camp. At the end of this track I turned left, heading towards the aircraft observation tower. I then followed this track to the road that leads down to the far end of Geroskipou Beach. Just one part of the path was very muddy. Interesting to see how they are constructing the breakwaters passed Tomb of the Kings. I would think they are bringing the stone by barge from Geroskipou as the barge was being towed back later in the day.
I cycled up from the coast path to Lidl and then took the cycle track and then road as far as Kissonerga before turning round. I then returned back to Paphos, using the road and then cycle track to the Elysium, and then the coast path back to the kiosk by the Imperial where Rosemary picked me up.
I intend to ride the route from Anarita to Timi and farm tracks to the coast and then harbour regularly, but also try to discover more farm tracks on the Mandria side of the airport road.
Today I was out for around five hours, but I chatted with Aristas from Elean for quite a long time, plus a couple of coffees.

Re: Today's Bike Ride
Nice one John! How do I recognize you when your are cycling the coastal footpath, in case we bump into each other?
I'm planning afternoon strolls along there, in order to walk off combined calories from breakfast and lunch, and make room in my tummy for the evening meal, LOL!

White cycle helmet, bright orange top, or bright orange Muddy Fox jacket from Direct Sports. As long as it keeps fine I'll carry on doing the ride from Anarita. However, if there was a lot of rain, the farm tracks would be very muddy and I would continue with my walks from Riccos Beach.

Re: Today's Bike Ride
Out again today. 17 miles, from Anarita to the Elysium Hotel and then back to the kiosk next to the Imperial for a coffee, where Rosemary picked me up.
I did try another route today. When Igot to Geroskipou Beach, I turned left and rode along the pebbly beach. We have walked it previously.
The path was very narrow in places due to erosion during the winter. Another storm and it will probably disappear.
However, when I got to the stables and horse track, the field there had horses in and the path was blocked by fences and barbed wire. Previously I had walked this bit, over a horse track and then through a wooded area up to the airport fence with the two Shackletons. There was a track down to the beach, but I did not fancy riding or pushing over pebbles. Plus, I did not know how easy it would be to get back onto the footpath. I will investigate this on foot at a later date.
I also spotted these.
I tried turning the tap, but no water appeared.

Hi John,
Am following your posts with interest. I walk in this area with a walking group some weeks. I recognise some of the tracks which you have photographed. We also walk tracks near both Timi, Mandria and also Achelia. There seem to be miles of thema all along this stretch of the coast, often close to woodland, orchards or agricultural land, It gets a bit pongy though if you get too close to the sewerage works.... so best avoided!
May see you some time when we are out walking. At least I know what colours you are likely to be wearing!

Re: Today's Bike Ride
I will always have a bright orange Lidl cycling top on when on my bike. At least when I am on the road, I can be seen. I want to find out if I can cycle from Mandria to Geroskipou Beach without going on a main road. I have worked out the best place to cross the airport road, from the Mandria side, near a car hire or parking place, but each time I have tried it in the car, I have ended up back on the B6.
It would be nice to cycle back on farm tracks to Mandria, where Rosemary could pick me up to save me cycling up the hill from Timmi.

Bing maps are good for checking all the small lanes https://www.bing.com/maps/
But when it opens zoom into the area you want... hover the cursor over 'road' top right.. You then get the option to click on 'Aerial view' Then you can really zoom in and see the tracks..

I've seen your final pic somewhere else. I think it was in a picnic spot.

And if you are lucky enough that the area you are looking for is available in "bird's eye" view (right mouse click) THEN it is really great.... (unfortunately it is only available in a few areas round Paphos district...( harbour, Yeroskipou, Latchi, Neo Chorion, Kissonerga..)trevnhil wrote: ↑Sun Feb 04, 2018 10:22 pm Bing maps are good for checking all the small lanes https://www.bing.com/maps/

Re: Today's Bike Ride
Dom, the last picture was taken a few hundred metres from the far end of Geroskipou Beach, just before the riding stables and where the original path was blocked off. It is on a footpath as there is a sign on a stone construction indicating the way to Kato Paphos, again in Greek. I am sure the path forms part of European Footpath E6.
Trev and Max, thanks for the info on maps. Pity there are no official public footpaths in agricultural areas that are marked on maps. I am now trying to work out how far the path that runs alongside the airport fence is and whether it links to the Timi and Mandria farmlands.
What pleases me is that I can cycle from Timi to the harbour and beyond, without worrying about traffic.

Even without the Birdseye view it is still the best pictorial Map of Mandria to Paphos and beyondcyprusmax47 wrote: ↑Sun Feb 04, 2018 11:19 pmAnd if you are lucky enough that the area you are looking for is available in "bird's eye" view (right mouse click) THEN it is really great....
