I see in today's "Cyprus Mail" that the 2 undersea cables that carry international internet traffic to/from Cyprus are now back to normal.
Bearing in mind it takes a while to repair damage to undersea cables, can anyone please explain to me why Internet Circuits are not or cannot be routed or re-routed via satellite?
Amos.

Re: Internet Services (International)
Optical links can carry hundreds times more info than satellite; question of bandwidth. Also cheaper.
Re: Internet Services (International)
OK, thank you.
But if the submarine cables get damaged (as was the case last week) why not temporarily re-route the data circuits vis satellite?
Thus maintaining the quality of service.

Re: Internet Services (International)
They do, but their bandwidth is restricted, slowing things up.
Re: Internet Services (International)
Thanks for all comments. I have to admit I was not aware the submarine cables terminating in Cyprus were FO type.
Let us hope such breaks/damage are rare.
