Re: British Passports
Hubby renewed his last month and is perfectly happy with his red one. Mine is due for renewal in 2020 and I am going to be mightily peed off.
I like my red passport, much easier to spot when it's inside a bag or tucked away inside our navy blue travel wallet...

Re: British Passports
I'm sure you are right Shane ! However I am so pleased as this seems to be the first step to our independence and just treat yourself to a new red bag photolady and then your new blue passport will be easily recognisable

I wonder why I feel this is going to develop into more Brexit bickering.... yuck.
Dump it in the pit.

Re: British Passports
No need for bickering Amos as long as people just ignore the sarcasm of WHL! It is obvious that some will agree and some will not but there is absolutely no need for sarcasm which just shows a bad loser in my opinion. And just as an addendum I deliberately posted this in the Moderate section so there should not be any arguments or unpleasantness.

Re: British Passports
Me too!
So far, I ain't convinced..... all we've achieved so far is the re-run of a coloured passort issued in 1921.
How is that progress?

Re: British Passports
When I was obliged to have a EU passport I purchased a blue cover for it with the front embossed as the former UK one - problem solved particularly as my travels entail countries outside of the EU. I obviously had to comply with immigration procedures but it was painless.
Jules I think you will find something more important than the colour of a passport cover has been achieved i.e. the right of ex pat citizens to remain unhindered in the country where they now reside and vice a versa with all rights etc intact. The right for ex pats to move from one EU country to another is yet to be determined but hopefully agreement will be reached on that also. I personally believe that to be more important than the colour of a passport. Details are in a thread in the General section under Information from the High Commissioner.
As it is I recall before we entered the EU travelling without problems to most European countries indeed throughout the world - ok one had to show ones passport (as we still should) but where is the problem in that - queues etc when does one not have to do that now. Try entering the United States without any passport other that an American one likewise Russia, Australia etc one queues no matter what if one is not a national of the country.

I am presently cruising on the High Seas where no passports are as yet required

Re: British Passports
I'm not into having a cover on my passport Rita, some places ask you to remove the damn thing before you go through their controls which makes it yet another pain in the butt - but I hope you enjoy your cruise

Re: British Passports
Apparently the new passports will be made in France or Germany.
Getting back our independence eh!

Re: British Passports
Not so Phil. As far as I am aware it has been put out to tender and three companies have been shortlisted ,one French, one German and one British firm( the present one) are in the running for the contract. However,we will always trade with the EU I am sure so whoever provides the best quote I would imagine and why not? I have a great deal of respect for Theresa May but whatever she does she is damned if she does and damned if she doesn't. Not like you Phil to do a bit of scaremongering!!

I thought the UK had no ID cards? Is that no longer true?Happy in Cyprus wrote: ↑Sun Dec 24, 2017 3:55 am I care not one jot what the cover colour of my passport is, any more than I worry about the colour of my driving licence or ID card.

Re: British Passports
Just being a realist Shelagh, the world is a big place these days and I can't see the point of trying to isolate yourself with independence.
Re: British Passports
Of course, another, more accurate word for this "independence" is "divorced".
And like a divorced person, there are still rules to follow. You just have less support.

Re: British Passports
I thought you always supported forward planning HIC? The current contract to produce the British passports is coming to an end as you well know. Any good business would plan ahead as you keep telling us so there was a need to change the passport to a non EU one and it certainly made sense to change the colour to avoid confusion. Lets face it any single thing that the Government do re BREXIT will be wrong in your eyes. I say again I put this in the moderate section so see no need for remarks such as "idiotic and belligerent".If you want to be unpleasant then why don't you start your own thread in the Politics section? And Phil I was not referring to your stance on this just the fact that your reporting was incorrect!
Re: British Passports
I have moved HiC's post to the Politics section Poppy. You are quite right about his remarks. They don't belong in the Moderates section.
