Thousands affected by Paphos bus strike

Post by memory man »

Paphos bus drivers started an indefinite strike at 6am on Tuesday morning.

The strike by bus company Osypa is expected to affect around 18,000 passengers in the Paphos district, including 6,000 students, thousands of tourists, a number of pensioners and people using buses to get to work.

According to spokesman for the drivers Christos Evangelou Monday’s talks between the transport ministry and the management of Osypa failed to achieve results and the employees therefore have no other choice but to stage a strike.

I can't say I blame them, given they haven't been paid for 2 months. I speak as someone whose wife uses the bus every day, and now have to drive her everywhere.

I just don't get how the bus company has been overpaid by the government to the tune of 3.5 million, yet hasn't get enough money to pay staff their wages. Time for a new bus company, and a full investigation into their finances, I think.
