Is this the quote of the year?

Is this the quote of the year?

Post by Poppy »

Michael Gove stated that going into a BBC interview is like going into Harvey Weinsteins bedroom You pray that you will come out with your dignity intact.
It was a joke and I thought it funny but he has had to apologise!

No it isn't the quote of the year. It is a feeble attempt by a silly man to show that he has a sense of humour. He doesn't.

Did you make Jokes about Jimmy Savile? Just curious as to where you draw your line. We all have our own lines. It would be boring if we didn't. Mine stops short of joking about ongoing rape cases. I was curious where yours and Poppy's stops.

Alleged rape Dominic - lets not forget that. I believe he has admitted to sexual harassment but not rape so are you guilty of condemning someone before their alleged crime is proven? Surely that is worse than our bit of humour?

I haven't condemned him of anything. It was Michael Gove who made the joke. I said the case was ongoing.

You said an an ongoing rape case, WHL said Rape. If we are going to be pedantic maybe you should have said an alleged ongoing rape case?

There are many vocations that use ‘black humour’ in order to alleviate traumatic experiences, that said, it is generally done amongst the group involved.
Gove is a Government Minister, & should behave, always, in a manner befitting the office he represents, his comments spoken live on the Today programme were beyond sardonic, they were crass, he should be ashamed of himself.

The alleged rapes/assaults are many, the piece in the Telegraph makes for insidious reading, ( they were asking for it Guv’ ),
It seems to suggest, being ex military, I too am inclined towards ‘black’ humour, but there are just some things that will NEVER
be funny...rape/sexual assault/ harassment falls into that category.

How am I being pedantic? You accuse me of being worse than you for condemning a man as a rapist before he had been found guilty of anything. The only person, in fact, who was implying anything about the man was Michael Gove.

If you don't like different opinions, why post on a public forum asking for them?

Stop getting your knickers in a twist! I have not accused you of anything and I believe it is you who don't like different opinions not me and please don't put words into my mouth. I'm quite happy that people have different opinions to me and if you don't find it funny then so be it but I do although I have to admit that in his position he should probably not have said it.

I'm not getting my knickers in a twist at all. And on the contrary, I like different opinons. You couldn't really have a political section without them. If everybody agreed it would be boring.

But how have I put words into your mouth?

Really, I don't know why you are all arguing over this!

It was a poor joke in extremely bad taste at a time that is very raw having been recently dragged into the public eyes. Gove should have known better than use it as a point scoring exercise 😈

The first law of holes, or the law of holes, is an adage which states that "if you find yourself in a hole, stop digging". Meaning that if in an untenable position, it is best to stop carrying on and exacerbating the situation. 8-)
