My walks and bike rides around North Wales

Got something to share that isn't strictly related to Cyprus? Post it here.

My walks and bike rides around North Wales

Post by Anarita John »

On Sunday 1st October I cycled from Penrhyn Bay to Ffynnongroyw. I then cycled back to Prestatyn where Rosemary picked me up.

St Trillo's Chapel and Well, around 2 miles from our house. I remember the elation I felt when I first walked here in late February, just 6 weeks after my heart bypass.

The pier at Colwyn Bay. The end was demolished earlier in the year. Will what remains survive the winter.

Part of the new promenade at Colwyn Bay. The prom had been closed for around a year whilst strengthening work and this new prom was built.

Nice to see these photos!

We haven't been to Wales for many, many years now.... Probably something we will do next year for a couple of days here and there.

A four mile walk along the prom and then cycle track all the way to Prestatyn.

The steepest part of the route between Penrhyn Bay and Chester.

That looks good, maybe we shall have to put the bike rack back on the car!

It is a fantastic route and well worth bringing your bikes.

Pensarn where you can get a drink at the Beach Cafe, as long as you are there by 4:30pm in summer and 3:30pm in winter. This really annoys me about Wales. Cafes still do not stay open late.

Kimnel Bay and sea defences. This area was very badly flooded in 1990.

The new bridge at Rhyl which means you no longer have to go on the road here. From here, you can continue in Cycle Route 5 or, if you turn right after crossing the bridge, you can follow Route 84 to Rhuddlan and then St Asaph. This is a lovely route, alongside the River Clywd. And if you reach St Asaph, you can treat yourself to a lovely meal at the Plough.
At this bridge there is a cafe (again early closing) and a bike shop that hires out bikes to tourists. Even that does not stay open late in summer.

Thanks for doing this. Can I suggest you post more pics in a new thread? If it is part of the same journey, call it Part 2 or something. If it is a different journey just give it a different title.

Otherwise you will end up with one thread with lots of pics. This is fine to view if you are on a desktop. But if you are in a wifi hotspot, or using your mobile, it can be a nightmare to download, and possibly expensive. :)

From here it is sea wall and then promenade to Prestatyn. Could be difficult in winter with sand on the sea wall.
