Water storage levels in Paphos area

Just checked the Cyprus Govt''s Reservoir water storage levels table. After the recent rain, the Asprokremnos Dam has 41.2%, the Everitou and the Mavrokolymbos Dams also around 40% full, though the tops of the Troodos are still snow covered. But we still need more heavy rain this winter.

We visited the Asprokremnos Dam and Foinikas the other day.The water hadn't risen much since my blog pictures. However, there is now a very healthy river flowing down the centre of the valley. It made a lovely sound too.

Wow so Jan 2012 must have been a bit wet...

My measurements for Dec were 102l/m2 and for Jan 70l/m2
If it stops raining from now and it is like last year in Jan/Feb when
we had only 85l/m2 in this two month then..... it will not be enough
if we have the normal hot long Summer. OK there is some snow in the
mountains to melt but it is not that much. I think it would be better if
the Government can sort out the mess with the desalination plant down
Kouklia beach.

I understood that the desalination plant had been decommissioned and was being dismantled.

The Daily Rainfall Stats from the Meteoroligical Department are quite interesting as well. Toal rainfall since 1/10 is 95% of historical average (since 1961). Boosted by the fact the December was about 165% of historical average for December which helped to catch up on dry months of October and November.

Yes, that is what has been reported. Apparently, the decision to decomission the desalination plant was made by the previous Mayor. It was costing too much to maintain ( now we have since been told why!) and it had not been needed at that time. What a short sighted decision.
