Cypriot drivers "addicted to their mobile phones"

Post by Paphos Life »

A recent study by the Cyprus Institute of Statisticians has found that 59% of drivers admit to using their mobile phones while at the wheel and that most people breaking the law in this way are female and texting....

What do they discuss?

Is it what they've just watched on TV?
Which shop they are going to?
What are the going to buy!

What other reasons for using mobile?

I will have to join you as well, because I cannot see what is so important that you have to use your phone whilst driving.
Only yesterday I saw a policeman driving a police car with the blue lights on (aren't they always on) :-( eating a big sandwich or burger..

The scariest part of that article is that most people using the phone are texting.

I believe the "blue lights on" measure is designed to slow traffic down ............... well, at least to the speed limit that is! I remember reading somewhere that it is a deliberate policy which is used in other EU countries as well.

People talk all the time, sometimes totally unnecessarily, because most people don't like silence.
The car radio is not enough, people like to chat.

I find it amazing that people drive out of their parking spaces at home and are on the phone in seconds.

We know a young well educated professional Cypriot whose BMW was his pride and joy. One day we saw him driving a small run-around instead.
"What's happened to your car?" we enquired.
"Ah, I had an accident so I'm using my mother's car while my BMW is being repaired." came the response.
"Oh no, what happened, are you all right?"
"I'm fine. I was texting and drove into the back of the car in front." he explained.
"So have you learnt anything from this, then?" we asked.
"Oh yes. Not to make complicated texts while I'm driving." was the happy reply.

Yes less population....But They have a fraction of the coppers here that they have in the U.K. ...as for bent coppers, you really don't want to go there, because the U.K., especially the Met has a horrendous record on corruption.

Would you please provide evidence regarding your public statement that "the Met (Police Service) has a horrendous record on corruption" please.

Thanks

I recently saw a young woman pushing a baby in a push chair, walking along texting and looking at the phone at the same time, unbelievable. The UK is no better.
