Mag 265 box

Post by STELIOSBWFC »

Hi all,
I was just wondering if they sell Mag 265 boxes in Paphos. I have a Mutant box for IPTV in the UK. I have heard that this box is much better and wanted to compare the UK price to the CYP price as I want 4 of them. The Villa we stop in has one and it is a smashing little box. Yeah I have done Amazon and other sites just wanted to compare prices. Thanks STELIOS.

Is the Mag 265 a few steps up from the 256? We are hoping to buy a Mag when we are over next week. I asked the clever people in Computer SOS about the 256, and they recommended I stick with the 254 at they said the 256 is "not that great". Perhaps I should be looking at this 265 instead. I'm new to this as we've only had Kodi before, so if I sound like I don't know what I'm talking about - I don't!

We have a 254 Mag box and we are quite happy with it... You do of course have to pay subscriptions for the programs on top of the price for the box. But we would not be without the Mag box now..
Because the TV is at the opposite side of the room to where the Router is, we are using plugs that utilize the house electric wiring to get the signal to the Mag Box without a cable along the floor..

Bogart good advice from Brian at SOS the 256 can be hard to get loaded even experts on Mags have problems with them, I did manage to find a service provider to load the 256 but you are limited to what he could offer, 254 or even 250's are far easier to get going well.

Yes my two 254 also work trouble free, but that was not the question, you can buy on line a Mag265 or even a 256 from Amazon DE (Germany) about €77, plus shipping, but I would stick with the 254 or even the older slower 250.

Thank you for the advice. Easier is what I need for sure.

I could be wrong, but I think Stelios got the last 2 numbers the wrong way round and he is referring to the MAG256.

I bought one a couple of months ago for my mother, but apparently it isn't compatible with her service.

If anyone wants it, I'm sure we can sort out a deal. :)

There are not many providers that support the 256 yet, I am told that it is because the 256 portal is not compatible with the android or Pi Stalker application. I think that until the new codecs are taken up generally it is better to hang on a while and stick to the 250/254 box.

Just slightly off topic but to do with the mag boxes. It claims to be 7 day catch up but as far as I can see it is just 7 days from 1 min past midnight on Monday morning and descends down from that as the week goes on. For instance a programme on, on sun night can't be viewe'd on monday. I did ask Brian at sos and he said he would ask the question. Unless I have missed something it basically is not a rolling 7 day catch up. It is a good box by the way no other complaints

I just checked mine, it goes back to the 28/08, so a bit more than 10 days, but the 27th is unavailable.

We have a MAG 250 box running NTV from SOS, we are frequently getttin " Connection Problem " notice at top of screen and the picture freezes and disappears. Press TV button on remote and most times it reappears but sometimes everything freezes and I have to reboot. This is not Internet as we were running at 6.4 last night ant at one stage this was happening every 5 minutes. Should the MAG box be updated to 254 should NTV be changed for UKTV. We run a Clearstream box when outside and we have no problems with that.

When we get that message at the top of the screen, it does mean that we have lost the internet, whatever we are doing on the laptops stops at the same time.
Maybe it is worth having a word with Brian..

Not in our case Trev, OH using Laptop and " Connection Problem " appears but Laptop carries on. Suspect " Connection Problem " is a catch-all notification, so we could have different problems. This has happened before but had we have been free of it for a while, now it is back. I am going in to SOS to pay the TV sub but was wondering if now is a good time to change.

The NTV connection problem isn't uncommon. I had NTV until a few weeks ago, and had this quite often. I switched to Simon from Sensible Satellites service, and the quality is far better but it still freezes occasionally with a 20 meg connection from CYTA. The picture quality far exceeds NTV.

I use a MAG 254.

Re the connection problem messages , this frequently happens if your connection is via wi fi . any other wi fi near by even a cordless telephone can cause it try a LAN cable and see if that improve things ., I was having the same problen here in UK , changed from wi fi to a LAN cable and only had one communication problem in four weeks .

Our Mag box is hardwired through the electric mains system. Took the box in and am now waiting for the loan of a Max 254 as opposed to our Mag 250 to see if things improve . Sheryl tells me we are no longer with NTV but with 4TV and have been for a while. Tell me about Simon.

Further to my aside about rolling 7 day catch up. As you have all said it does indeed have this capacity. I just didn't realise you just kept scrolling up.
Deadly but dim. But thanks for comments.
