Looking at new sites for fossils near the Sea I took this pic yesterday. I nearly forgot about this healthy plant which I enjoyed many many years ago as pickled like capers. The area of Ayia Marina towards Pomos was famous for it and many Cypriots from Nicosia came all the way to collect them.

sea fennel or samphire?
Yes, that's the plant. Did you ever tried it pickled? Sea fennel or rock samphire and in Cyprus called kirtama belongs to the Crithmum family.
Very nice link and video: http://www.cyprusalive.com/en/crithmum
As I know where plenty of it grows I am going to collect some and pickle it, even when it is a little bit late in August....
Doesn't look like purslane to me as that has flat leaves and doesn't look like samphire either as that looks like mini asparagus. Looks like fennel or a member of the aniseed family.
Max also try the pickled purslane. It's lovely. Also the purslane and mint salad is very nice (called glistirida). Haven't had the pickled one or the salad for a long time. Must have a look to find some.
