New LIDL Car park - BEWARE!

The new LIDL car park on the Mesogi Road has a hidden danger, it slopes.

My friend had the misfortune to put her trolley at the back of the car while going inside to release the boot lid. On turning around she saw her trolley full of shopping racing down towards the road. At that moment a car had turned into the car park just as the trolley hit a kerb and tipped over spilling everything out in front of the car. Fortunately the driver knew the lady and helped pick everything up with nothing smashed. The Manager was informed and expressed concern.

What if it hadn't been just shopping in the trolley, but a child!

The trolley's perhaps need brakes, just as they do in the airports, either that or a complimentary brick in each trolley!

Supermarket trolleys definately need a foot-operated brake on one of the back wheels, Mike, just like NHS beds have..

Our local Tesco car park has only a gentle slope down from the store. But with a strong prevailing southerly wind sometimes, it's amazing to see the loaded trolley trying to race away from you, while you're simply trying to open the boot or tailgate! You definately need to keep one hand on the trolley at all times, whilst transferring the contents into the car!

Slightly off topic, sorry... I've seen ladies on their own doing this exercise, with their HANDBAG still hung on the back of their trolley... Along comes a car full of low-life scum, they pause, reach out, grab her handbag, then screech off, FFS!

LADIES: The FIRST thing you put into your boot is your handbag. Then your shopping. Lock up. Take trolley back. Unlock, grab your handbag, then scarper. Cheers- AL

Just discovered that my new outdoor air-con has got 2 foot-operated brakes on the 4 wheels, and it works It would not such an big story to modify all the trolleys at Lidl's .

On the subject of slpoes in car parks, there's one at Papa's, Polis Rd, you do have to keep a hand on your shopping trolley there too. So slopes are not unknown. As someone said its down to the individual being careful!

I guess that once you've experienced a runaway trolley then in future you will know what to do. The new one at LIDL does not have a particularly obvious slope, so a word of warning to others cannot surely be faulted 'WHL' !

There's a big difference between legal statutory warnings on everything and a bit of friendly advice being shared.

While it's good to learn from your mistakes it's dumb to learn everything that way.

Why, Pete? The trolley, with one of it's back wheels foot-locked will simply spin on it's own local axis and stay where it is, rather than go gallavinting down the other end of the car park, smashing into the side of someone's nice car, perhaps!

Pushing a supermarket trolley is indeed NOT rocket science, WHL. What we're talking about here is simply securing and parking the bloody thing, whilst opening your boot/tailgate to txfr contents of trolley into car, without loaded trolley racing away from you, down the flipping car park!
