Finally delivered: air-con for my girl (pics)

Post by cyprusmax47 »

With the forecast of even higher temperatures for the next weeks I thought the poor dog is already suffering from the heat. So I ordered one of the outdoor air-con units I was talking about in the past. After 15 minutes running time the temperature dropped by 5 C from 31.2 to now 26 C which is very comfortable as in the same moment the humidity is also rising from low 37 %. So we (Lucky and me) will celebrate our dinner outdoors with the air-con on... :) :)

Here the unit: it took some time to fill up the tank with 86 l of water.

Display in the kitchen, showing indoor/outdoor temps and humidity at the same moment

Display showing 26 C on the unit

The air-con from the back, Lucky already happy..

After a couple of minutes more, Lucky is enjoying it a lot...

That looks an amazing appliance, Max! Dare I be nosy and ask how much wonga (€) it set you back, please?

Lucky is a smashing looking Alsatian (German Shepherd). How old is he he/she?

On another note, I don't think it will be too long before another single member here on PL PMs you to ask if you'd like company on a Saturday lunch @ Filiotis Fish Taverna, Timi Beach, so you can both enjoy a Fish Meze for 2 and a chat, and go Dutch on the bill...

As I already mentioned in another post they charge 550 dosh plus VAT including delivery and commissioning (incl. wheels)

The headline: "air-con for my girl" says it all  She is 3-4 years old and a rescue (that why the name is Lucky) and from the size, one can see she is a girl...

I don't like to go Dutch on bills - either I invite (often) or I am invited (rare) :) :)

Max, you say the wondrous machine increases the humidity. Would it therefore be unwise to have one nearer the coast, where it is already rather humid later in the year? I like the idea of being cooler outside, but if it means having to wring out one's clothes every few minutes..... :o :o

Bograt, as I lived many years in Argaka near the sea, where many times very dry wind was coming from inland a similar air cooler was working excellent. But must say I had a so called "Mister" which works different as it is really blowing wet air like fog at you. Very different is this new air-con I got now the first day. The air blowing at you is only much cooler than the environment not feeling wet. Of course evaporation works best with low humidity, but it will do also the job just not so efficient. In case the humidity is really high one can set the unit on fan only which still blows a max. of 8000 m3 !!!! air at you depending the setting (1,2,3) So if you live on the coast of Paphos to Peyia and the wind comes from the mountains it will be a dry wind :!: After using the unit in my place for some days I will do an update.Right now 2.45 pm outdoor is 31.8 C, 34% RH, while with the unit running since 1 hour on the other side of the house it is 25 C where my pics show the unit.

Thank you for the reply. What an impressive difference you have recorded, and it is interesting to hear that you can run the unit on fan only if needed. This could make the difference for me between staying in Cyprus throughout the summer, instead of going back to the UK when the weather gets really lively. It's the humidity that gets me, thus the reason for my question.

I for one would indeed appreciate an update if you get a chance. Any pictures of Lucky enjoying her environment would be a bonus :D :D

Well, I must say Lucky is already so happy about the cooler temperatures and she knows exactly just after on day which is the coolest place in front of the "monster"...

No guard dog anymore - fast asleep    normally she used to lay on the blue mat near the steps...

Maybe it is the combination of the noise and the cool breeze.... :)

Convinced now Dominic?

Yeahey! Dogs are extremely clever indeed.... our old doggy always knew the ultimate place to lie with the A/C units were switched on, whether it be in summer for the coolness or in winter for a bit of warmth. He always managed to find the best spot - on MY bed, usually before I managed to get in it!
