Finsbury Park: Several people hurt after vehicle hits pedestrians

A man is fighting for life and several other people were injured when a
white van was driven into worshippers near Finsbury Park mosque.

About 10 pedestrians were hit when the rented van swerved onto the
pavement on Seven Sisters Road shortly after midnight today.

A man was then said to have leapt out of the vehicle, and there were

From the BBC:
A man has died and 10 people have been injured after a van ploughed into pedestrians near a north London mosque.
The van mounted the pavement and struck a group of people just after midnight BST near Finsbury Park Mosque in Seven Sisters Road. A 48-year-old man has been arrested.
Prime Minister Theresa May said police were treating it "as a potential terrorist attack".
Eyewitness Abdul Rahman said the driver said he wanted to "kill all Muslims".
Mr Rahman told the BBC he struck the man and helped subdue him.
"When the guy came out from his van he wanted to escape, run away and he was saying 'I want to kill Muslims. 'I want to kill Muslims.'
"I hit him on his stomach... and then me and the other guys... we held him to the ground until he couldn't move. We stopped him until the police came."
Counter-terrorism officers are at the scene, the Metropolitan Police said.

It is terrorism, pure and simple. The UK is not at war with Muslim society, Muslims have been victims in previous UK terrorist attacks. This was an attack by a mad maniac, like the other terror attacks. The only common ground is that they were all committed by mad maniacs.

They're referring to it as a terrorist incident but also indicated hate crime against Muslims have increased after the recent attacks with the exception of the Westminster incident.

The very fact this took place outside a mosque as prayers ended knowing people were leaving speaks volumes.

The terrorists in Manchester and London couldn't possibly have known the race or religion of everyone they attacked. In this attack on a place of worship tells us all we need to know. It's a hate crime in my eyes.

There are some very sick people in our world....

Splitting hairs really, as this is a hate and sectarian crime, but we need to be consistent and label it a Terrorist act.

I really cannot fathom why some people object to it being classed as terrorism. How many people have to be killed before it is terrorism then? Was Anders Behring Breivik a terrorist? He killed 77 people, but acted alone.

Personally I find it highly disrespectful to squabble over the minutiae of the grammar employed when reporting such attacks. It is like you are saying it doesn't matter so much.

I agree Dominic, I also believe that the right wing press are partly to blame, hateful rantings just fuel such extreme views.

As I said in an earlier post, I strongly believe this was an act of terror, pure and simple!

Hudswell, could I suggest that perhaps you should edit part on your post.

For goodness sake. Is an exact number really required, or have you some not so hidden agenda? The fact is that Muslims have been killed or injured in nearly every terrorist attack in the UK alongside their non-Muslim fellow Brits. They have also attended as members of the police, fire brigade and ambulance service. And before you ask, no I don't have exact numbers.

Well, It is time to forget about what religion was killed/injured, there is a big fuss made in the media about this, but nothing about the march on Sunday by Al-Qud flying hezboullah flags and being against the Jewish community. If this not hate crime/treason I do not know what is, but the Mayor of London allowed it to go ahead - can you imagine a BNP (or other right wing group) march being allowed?.

There has been more media coverage about this single event than the poor teenagers blown up in Manchester enjoying a concert, plus it is possible no-one got killed as a direct result, plus the bloke responsible did not get out of his van and slice as many people as he could.

Even the great Dianne Abbot described this as a terrorist attack, but described the others as an "incindent"

It is time for the Government and Islamic communities to deal with the elephant in the room, before Enoch Powell's speech years ago comes to fruition.

I am glad I live here and not a major city in the UK.

RW, I hope that you do not think I am racist, my fiancee is buddist, my Cousins are Jews, and I did seriously consider flying medical supplies for MAF into war zones 'last year on a 6 month period as I have a PPL (I thought Ian and Gwen could do without me for a while), but the Methodist church wanted a bible study period which I could not do, as I do not beleive in a god (at least as the mainstream religion do).

Some people need to show more respect for the dead. If you cannot do that, find another forum.

Do you have any statistical evidence to back this up?

no, but it is still main headlines on the news today, but Manchester went quiet shortly after.

Do not get me wrong, all attacks are wrong, does not matter who carried out them out, or why, it is abhorent whatever reason. The likes of Dianne Abbot tweets saying the previous ones were "incidents" but this is a "terror attack" says it all - just check her twitter account.
