Tax return E 19500

Post by tonee »

Hi
Had email from tax dept.stating that if your income is below 19500,its not mandatory to submit a tax return, this was in bold letters.
Am posting this because there is so much mis information on this in the past, even certain accountants disputing the fact, ching, ching.

I was told that you still have to submit one so they can calculate how much gesy there is to pay?

It may not be mandatory but have submitted tax return for years ,simply to prove my income history....
Don't want any problems and probing questions later....

If you are an S1 holder you are exempt from paying tax on GESY contributions.
In 2019 I was advised to contact Tsoula Michael at the MOH with my name and id number stating I was an S1 holder and received back an official document stating I was not eligible for contributions indefinitely. Not sure if it is the same person dealing with this now here is the link tmichael@papd.mof.gov.cy

Souniman is quite right. I also have the letter saying I don't have to pay for Gesy, ever. Anyone with an S1 can apply for it.

Also, to clarify, if your income is under 19500 then you don't have to submit a tax return.

I think it depends on who you manage to speak to at the Tax Office. My wife phoned up one day last year and was told she had to complete a tax form even though her pension income was way below the 19,500. My wife already had a TIC for IPT purposes and the tax lady talked her through how to register with Taxinet and complete the form?? Don't shout at me, I'm just saying :D

Thank you for this. I spoke to Ms Michael. She said you used to need an official doc confirming you are exempt from GESY tax, but now you only need your white medical card which shows your registration number and the expiration date.
