OFFICIAL Government statement reference Chloraka

Announced

The President of the Republic, Mr. Nikos Christodoulidis, presided today, at the Presidential Palace, at a meeting regarding the incidents that took place in Chloraka.

After the meeting, the Government Spokesman Mr. Konstantinos Letymiotis, in his statements to the journalists, said: "At today's meeting on the incidents that took place in Chloraka, held under the President of the Republic, in the presence of the Attorney General, the Minister of the Interior , the Minister of Justice and Public Order, the Deputy Minister of Social Welfare, the Deputy Minister to the President, the Chief of Police and the Assistant Attorney General, it was decided, for safety and health reasons, the immediate execution and implementation of the decree of the Paphos District, dated 17 November 2021, for a ban on the use and habitation of the "Agios Nikolaos" complex in the community of Chloraka, pursuant to article 15 of the Roads and Buildings Law.

In this context:

1. The registration, by the Foreigners and Immigration Service of the Police and the Asylum Service of the Ministry of the Interior, in the presence of officials of the Deputy Ministry of Social Welfare, of those residing in the complex in question begins immediately. Registration will be completed no later than Friday, August 25, 2023.

2. Based on the results of the recording:

a. Asylum seekers residing in the complex in question, in violation of the 'Determining the Place of Residence of Applicants for International Protection within the Administrative Boundaries of the Community of Chloraka Decree of 2020', will be transferred to the reception center in Kofinou, where they will be subject to an immediate examination of the of their requests and at the same time they will be given the right to voluntarily leave the territory of the Republic of Cyprus.

b. Those who live in the complex in question and have legal status in the Republic will be given a period of two weeks from the date of completion of the registration to find alternative legal housing. It is noted that, in the case of vulnerable individuals and families with minor children, the Deputy Ministry of Social Welfare will provide the relevant support.

c. It goes without saying that as part of the registration, those found to be in the Republic illegally will be arrested and deported immediately.

3. Upon completion of the aforementioned, the Government will take all necessary measures for the faithful implementation of the decree of the Paphos District.

The President of the Republic gave explicit instructions to the Police to intensify controls in the area of ​​Chloraka to fully ensure public order".

Asked if the area will be sealed, the Spokesperson said that all measures will be taken to be able to implement the decree of the Paphos District.
