Petrol

Post by Dot n Dash »

Thought I noticed petrol in town this morning at 178 point something. On the way home topped up with half a tank (25.84 litres) and was surprised at the cost of €47 when looking at the receipt it read €39.50 plus €7.50 vat. I thought the vat had been suspended for the rest of this year, or have they changed their mind?

They did pass two bills reducing the VAT on Electricity and making the VAT on Fuel ZERO until the end of the year.
But the Government did not like this and sent the bills back for the courts to look at. This was 2 to 3 weeks ago and I have heard nothing about reduced VAT since then

Not seen anything since this article dated 15 July:

'President Nicos Anastasiades on Friday urged patience as he awaits the attorney general’s opinion on whether bills approved by the House plenary on Thursday regarding VAT on fuel and electricity bills are constitutional.

The government is understood to be considering either sending the two new laws back to the House for reconsideration or referring them to the supreme court'.

And the next thing that will crop up is that the decision has been delayed until after the Summer Holidays
